- Could Major League Baseball locate one of its two planned expansion teams in Music City? The idea floated by the league’s commissioner says it’s possible, while the reaction from cash-strapped city leaders was far more lukewarm.
- Former Metro Council member Loniel Greene died Wednesday night after a short illness. Greene’s brief stint as a District 1 council member ended shortly before being found guilty of coercing a witness.
- The Metro Council passed legislation instructing the finance office not to invest in private prison companies, though that agency says that they had not been doing so for several years. CoreCivic, one target of the legislation, said in a statement that the move was “politically motivated.”
- A planned “food waste recycling” operation planned for the Bordeaux neighborhood has been canceled after community leaders said that they were not adequately involved in the process and that the area was being “dumped” on. The original supporters cited “misinformation” as contributing to its cancellation.
- An open comment section before Metro Council meetings got its test run Tuesday night, with citizens allotted two minutes to share their thoughts on any topic even if it is not on the council agenda. The change was prompted by protests surrounding the Jocques Clemmons case.
- A man is accused of repeatedly rear-ending a Joyride Tours golf cart downtown with his Mercedes in a suspected case of road rage because the other driver wasn’t going fast enough. The owner the tourist mover says it is the second incident possibly involving alcohol impaired drivers.
- Next month’s Metro Davidson County even-numbered school board races are uncharacteristically civil in spite of adequate fodder for political mudslinging. The 2017 elections were noted for their deeply personal attacks and high dollar spending.
- Nashville police have arrested a Sylvan Heights man for allegedly putting a baby monitor underneath a coworker’s bed in order to spy on her. He gained access to her home after he watched a visitor enter her door’s keycode at a party.
- Demolition has begun at the John Cayce Homes public housing projectin East Nashville to make way for a the “Envision Cayce” project to create mixed income neighborhood. Current residents have had mixed reactions to the development, with some believing it will price most low income families out of the neighborhood.
- Tennessee Titans defensive end Jurell Casey says he will “take the fine” this year when it comes to pre-game protests that have become commonplace at NFL games to highlight the treatment of minority men and women by the justice system. The league has instituted fines for such displays in the coming season.
- The planned Major League Soccer stadium cleared its first legislative hurdle by winning unanimous approval from the Fairgrounds Nashville board to locate it on their property. It still has several additional steps to go through before a planned opening in 2021.
- Former Nashville Mayor Megan Barry has cleaned out her campaign account down to $101 from a high of $338,000 prior to her resignation in February, with most of the money either refunded to contributors or given to other political campaigns and causes. The mayor is serving a three years probation for illegal expenditures related to her admitted affair.
- A blog that critiques re-branding campaigns was less-than-kind to the Nashville MTA’s move to WeGo Public Transit on Monday. It is expected to take years before the logo is seen frequently around town.
- A woman in 12 South says that a renter in a nearby Airbnb broke into her house, claiming it was his own and started calling her racist epithets when confronted. The incident was partially captured on a neighbor’s security cameras.
- And finally in a bit of good news, a kayak guide saved a woman from drowning after she jumped into the Cumberland River.
