- The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said Thursday that they had found texts and nude photographs on Sgt. Rob Forrest’s cell phone that may be evidence of a crime. ? The TBI is investigating the circumstances around the affair between Forrest and Mayor Megan Barry.
- The mayor has also turned over her personal cell phone and its pass-code to the TBI, and her lawyer has made a formal request that District Attorney General Glenn Funk recuse himself from the investigation as the mayor’s office works to set the budget for the DA’s office. Funk says that his work will not begin until the TBI has completed its own inquiry.
- News Channel 5 has obtained video they say shows the mayor and Forrest visiting Nashville City Cemetery numerous times in the early morning hours and driving to the back side of the property. The mayor denies any inappropriate activity occurred in the cemetery, saying that she frequently went there to reflect, walk and catch up on emails.
- Court documents show that Sgt. Forrest’s wife has filed for divorce as of Friday, citing inappropriate marital conduct and irreconcilable differences. The former police officer has been mostly silent since the revelations, but issued a statement requesting privacy.
- Powerful storms Saturday night claimed the lives of at least two people across the southeast and destroyed numerous homes. Nearby Clarksville had at least six homes badly damaged by an F-2 tornado as it moved across the mid-state.
- The Nashville SceneĀ has a profile on an unorthodox haunted house that requires the operators to call the police before visitors begin, and involves hours of legal waivers to be read aloud. We, uh, will pass.
- Three Tennessee lawmakers are proposing a bill to end emissions testing in Tennessee, a requirement that came with the 1990 Clean Air Act that required the state to reduce pollution. The sponsors say it unfairly burdens the poor, while opponents say the testing has improved air quality across the state.
- A finance blog has ranked Tennessee the angriest, most hateful state in nation, though we ranked sixth for most “sinful” state based on a handful of indicators the site used in their report. We are trying not to be too mad about it. ?
- The Tennessee Titans have announced that they will reveal new jerseys for next season at an April 4 street party that will feature (we’re told it’s) music from Florida Georgia Line. The announcement also included unveiling their 20th Season (as the Titans) decal.
- The Nashville Predators (38-14-9) maintained their position at the top of the Central Division with a 1-7 win over the San Jose Sharks (33-21-8) Thursday (a game in which goaltender Pekka Rinne earned his 300th career NHL win, all with Nashville) and an 0-4 shutout (and season sweep) over the St. Louis Blues (34-25-4) Sunday. The team returns to action tomorrow night against the Jets (37-16-9) in Winnipeg.
- Two youth hockey teams from Rinne’s native Finland were in town as part of a youth hockey tournament, in which both teams made it to the final round. They originally made the trek to Nashville in 2011 as part of the league’s 40th anniversary to see, you guessed it, some country music.
- A Tennessee woman was arrested Friday for ramming her SUV into a security checkpoint at the White House in Washington, DC while holding a handgun. This was her fourth attempt to get on the property, the three previous attempts were by scaling the fence.
- Today at 2 p.m. is the NHL trade deadline, so the Predators will likely have a handful of trades to make as they prepare for the playoffs. So far, Pontus Aberg has been sent (effectively) to Edmonton for a draft pick, and a different draft pick went to San Jose for two AHL players.
- And finally, a K-9 unit named Balu in nearby Rutherford county made the largest drug bust of his career only two days before retirement, finding 14 kilos of cocaine. He’s a good dog. ?
