- A group of between 60 and 70 people attended a rally to call on Nashville Mayor Megan Barry to resign in the wake of an extramarital affair and alleged misuse of funds for travel. The organizers had estimated the expected attendance as high as 500, but say the turnout was not as important as their message.
- The Nashville Predators (36-14-9) returned to the top of the Central Division with a 2-5 win Monday night against the Ottawa Senators (21-28-10) at home and a 3-2 win on the road against the Detroit Red Wings (24-26-9) on Tuesday. The Preds host the San Jose Sharks (33-19-8) tonight and the St. Louis Blues (34-23-4) on Sunday.
- Speaking of St. Louis, former Predators goaltender Carter Hutton recently opened a joint venture called Nashville Urban Winery in town. Thanks for having us, Carter.
- Metro Councilman Freddie O’Connell is proposing a measure that would remove the $44 per night charge for remaining in the metro jail because the defendant is unable to make bail. O’Connell says the fee unfairly targets folks who may not even be convicted of their alleged offense.
- A 12 year-old boy has been accused of an attempted carjacking of a woman waiting outside in her car for her daughter’s dance practice to end. The suspect lied to police before eventually admitting to the incident.
- The would-be carjacker is among the 34 youths aged 12 and under that have been charged with a felony in the last year. Advocates say that incarceration is not likely to help long-term for the children.
- It’s going to be wet the next few days with flooding expected across the mid-state. Remember to be careful when driving near flooded areas so you don’t make the News Rodeo.
- The Metro Nashville Police Department is hosting community meetings for areas where the “ShotSpotter” technology will be installed to alert police when gunshots are heard through sensors. Some activists have questioned the effectiveness of the system versus its expense.
- Lawmakers at the state legislature have advanced a bill out of committee that would allow liquor sales on Sunday, signalling that the oft-ridiculed restriction’s days may be numbered.
- Adult entertainers from Deja Vu Showgirls set up a booth in front of the business that “sold” an AR-15 rifle in protest of how little regulations there is on firearms in contrast to the regulations around their profession. No, the gun was not actually for sale.
- A Vanderbilt student and 2017 graduate of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida where a gunman killed 17 people last week is organizing the March for Our Lives Nashville rally to call for safer public schools across the country. A group that organized the Women’s March is assisting with planning and will be participating.
- U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN) says that guidance counselors should identify “students who might be dangerous.” He did not offer specifics on exactly what criteria would be used or how such students should be reported to authorities.
- Nashville ranked 37th on a report of Tennessee’s safest cities, but it was ahead of Memphis, Knoxville and Chattanooga on a per-capita basis of violent and property crimes. Brentwood was the safest while the small town of Athens in McMinn County was the least safe.
- Ten children statewide have died from the flu this season, prompting public health officials to again remind everyone to get vaccinated. Free flu shots are available at the health department.
- There will soon be a new way to browse community information on the Nashville.gov site with data powered from the “Open Data” initiative. Officials say that the visualizations will help citizens better understand what is available.
