- Metro School teachers and staff spent part of Friday learning what to do in the event of an active shooter on campus. The training follows last Wednesday’s school shooting in Parkland, Florida where 17 were killed.
- A woman climbed into the fountain at the Nashville Symphony Center after the Predators game and assaulted an officer according to a police report. You would be correct in guessing that alcohol may have been involved.
- Metro Nashville Police Chief Steve Anderson announced the creation of a special task force to apprehend what police say are groups of teens responsible for numerous armed robberies. The team made its first arrest Saturday night in a sting operation.
- There will be a rally at the Metro Courthouse to call on Nashville Mayor Megan Barry to resign, a message printed on a bunch of those red signs that have been stuck in the medians around town. The mayor has said she will not be stepping down.
- Students from across Tennessee met at Martin Luther King, Jr. Magnet School this weekend for a robotics competition. ?
- Nashville will host a quarterfinal match between the United States and Belgium for the Davis Cup, the world championship in tennis. Vanderbilt last hosted the event in 1978 in a match between the US and South Africa.
- The Nashville Predators (34-14-9) have stumbled a bit in their last two games, dropping a 4-3 decision to the Calgary Flames (30-20-8) Thursday night and a 3-1 game against the Detroit Red Wings (24-24-9) Saturday. They close out the four-game home-stand tonight against the Ottawa Senators (21-27-9) before boarding a plane for Detroit again tomorrow night.
- Titans fans may get to see the future of the NFL up close and personal as Nashville has been named a finalist for either the 2019 or 2020 NFL Draft. The Titans have never hosted the draft.
- Two Nashville “residents” will not moving south anytime soon as a bill in the legislature to move the bodies of former President James K. Polk and his wife Sarah failed in committee. The couple are buried on the grounds of the State Capitol downtown.
- An elderly woman with a parakeet was arrested Saturday night after leading police on a low-speed chase from Mt. Juliet all the way to downtown. No word if she was heading towards the symphony fountain.
