- The Nashville Predators defeated Pittsburgh 5-1 in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final, with Game 4 set for tonight at Bridgestone Arena. There were 17,283 people in the arena and an estimated 50,000 outside.
- Speaking of which, the mayor declared today “Predators Pride Day”, and will host an event that “will unveil the latest in the city’s efforts to go all in for the Preds”. There will also be some changes to handle the large crowds ahead of Games 4 (home) and 5 (away)
- Sen. Mae Beavers of Mount Juliet became the latest candidate to join the 2018 governor’s race. We’d tell you more about that, but she has blocked all of us on Twitter.
- Also in 2018, the Mayor’s Office expects a referendum on new transit taxes allowed by the IMPROVE Act to appear on the ballot by then. City elections and referendums are typically voted on in August.
- The governor will be making a rather lengthy road trip across the state today to sign the IMPROVE Act in Chattanooga, Nashville and Union City.
- Nashville area food pantries are preparing for a surge in need because of proposed cuts to assistance programs. Now would be a good time to clean out your pantry for a family in need!
- The “Nashville Together” campaign launched last week in support of proposed ordinances that will end the practice of honoring “voluntary detention requests” from federal immigration officials and renegotiate a contract that makes Nashville a regional ICE detention center.
- A Vanderbilt University survey shows that Tennesseans care as much about health care as they do the economy.
- The site of a former city landfill will soon have nearly 6,000 solar panels on it, making it the first of its kind in Nashville. It is expected to provide enough renewable energy to power 210 homes each year.
- Meanwhile in Franklin, rapid city growth has lead to the filing of a permit to allow an increase in the wastewater discharge into the Harpeth River.
- The Roman Catholic Diocese of Nashville is mourning the death of its bishop, Rev. David R. Choby. He was 70 years old and only the second local priest to lead the diocese.
- A scabies outbreak — a tiny, burrowing mite that causes painful rashes — at the Nashville jail has affected at least 39 inmates and four court employees. One murder trial has been rescheduled because of treatment.
