• First, the REALLY important news from the last few days: The Nashville Zoo welcomed a newborn clouded leopard to its family, and it is so stinkin’ cute that we can’t even handle it.
• Speaking of cute animals, Metro Animal Care and Control is running a pretty fun St. Patty’s Day-themed adoption special this month in an effort to lighten the shelter load before baby animal season. If you want to adopt a new animal bestie this month, read about it here!
• Metro Council met with protesters to discuss a list of demands following the officer-involved shooting death of Jocques Clemmons a few weeks ago. Protesters showed up to a Metro Council meeting last month, and a separate meeting was scheduled in response. Demands include releasing the police report, firing the officer involved, and body cameras for MNPD. While the council says that some of the demands aren’t possible, a citizen review board will meet later this month to discuss others.
• A Vanderbilt residence hall, Carmichael Towers East, caught on fire last week over Vandy’s spring break. No one was injured, the damage was minimal, and students were allowed back in later that night.
• WSMV’s investigative team took a look at construction crane safety following last week’s accident that injured a worker at 5th & Church. Turns out they can look pretty precarious, but they’re rarely dangerous.
• The State of Tennessee has put executions on hold for the moment while they try to come up with one of the difficult-to-obtain drugs needed for lethal injection. The Tennessee Supreme Court is deciding what to do, whether it’s moving forward without the drug or falling back on the backup method of the electric chair.
