Good morning, Nashville. We hope you’re surviving the CMApocalypse festivities! The CMT Music Awards took place last night and Taylor Swift walked away with the Video of the Year award while Shania Twain walked away with renewed internet fame as she took a bit of a spill on the way to the stage. Weirdly enough, Justin Bieber also won his first CMT Music award for his collaboration with Rascal Flatts. Meanwhile, we were happy to see this tweet from WSMV ensuring us that no tourists ended up in the Cumberland River last night, and that whoever reported a drowning merely mistook an opossum for a human which almost (ALMOST) puts it in a league with the giant Bellevue Beaver in our book.
- No shootings at Movies in the Park. Metro Police really stepped up security at Movies in the Park last night following last week’s shooting. They’re blocking off most of the park entrances and exits, only allowing cars to come and go through one point and regulating how many people they’ll let into Centennial at once.
- BREAKING: Chris Johnson shows up for practice. Notorious for rarely showing up for off-season practices, Chris Johnson joined dozens of other Titans at yesterday’s unofficial practice at Father Ryan High School, surprising even his own teammates.
- Bits & pieces. Williamson County is experimenting with fancy new emissions technology that could all but eliminate the need for sitting around in that testing line every year … Fresh from the “only in Shelbyville” files, some guy disguised himself as a blanket and broke into a school … Westboro Baptist members will be in town next week to protest a Marine’s funeral … Oh look, Georgia is trying to get our water again … The Tennessee Board of Regents is kicking around the idea of a 9.5% tuition hike for its schools.
