Good morning, Nashville. Remember that texting-while-driving ban that passed last year? Seeing as today is National No Phone Zone Day, Metro might actually be out enforcing it. Since the law went into effect last July, we keep seeing news stories every few months about how the number of folks who have actually been pulled over for such an offense are embarrassingly low, and it’s mostly because none of the officers know how to enforce it. Today, however, they’ll actually be looking for offenders, but the bottom line is that we shouldn’t be texting and driving anyway because it’s dangerous.
- E is for E-mer-gen-cy. New billboards are popping up over town that show the average emergency room wait time for area hospitals, updated every four hours. The campaign is part of an effort to reduce the overall wait time for hospitals owned by TriStar Health System.
- Guns in Bars is back. The state Senate passed a different version of the Guns in Bars bill that was struck down in court last year, and this version hopes to take some of the mystery out of the language. If the bill passes this time around, it’ll allow gun owners to carry their weapons into any establishment that serves alcohol as long as they’re not drinking and no signs are posted that expressly ban guns.
- Calling in the big guns. Everybody’s favorite Central Parking may soon be spreading the love to Portland, Oregon, where they have been declared an “elegant solution” for the city’s parking woes. Perhaps someone should warn them?
- Bits & pieces. If you are trying to hide the marijuana plants that you’re growing, you should probably not place them in your windowsill in plain view … With all the rain, Tennessee’s strawberry crop is looking mighty good this year … The Titans are sticking up for Chris Johnson not showing up for practice … The weekend weather outlook looks decent-ish for tonight and tomorrow, with a possible washout on Sunday night.
