Good morning, Nashville. Weather forecasters are slowly beginning to crush our Snowpocalypse dreams by doing things like downgrading our Winter Storm Watch to a simple advisory and changing our snowfall projections to “around one inch.” Our trusty friends at NashvilleWX still have at least the northern half of Davidson County in the 2-3″ range. But because it doesn’t take much snow to make snowballs, we hear there might be a citywide snowball fight a-brewin’…
- Pipe dreams. As if snowy and icy roads aren’t enough to deal with for a city unaccustomed to frozen stuff, water main breaks are becoming a pretty big problem as pipes freeze and burst all across the midstate. These can turn busy streets into sheets of ice in a matter of minutes (like Gallatin Pike yesterday), so be careful!
- Unemployment demographics. The job market seems to be even tougher for African American men who are unemployed at a rate of 28% in Tennessee, which is about three times higher than the general unemployment rate.
- Bits & pieces. Relax, Jeff Fisher isn’t going anywhere according to our favorite bird-wielding 87-year old … We’re already breaking records with our gas prices this year … Spring Hill water customers will likely be seeing some refunds over the next few weeks because the city accidentally overcharged them … Brentwood residents can now sign up for the Reverse 911 program which allows emergency dispatchers to alert people in the event of an emergency in their area.
