Good morning, Nashville. Downtown businesses in the way of the proposed Music City Center aren’t giving up easily, and now the city has filed suit to seize seven of the properties under eminent domain including Christie’s Cabaret, the Musicians’ Hall of Fame, and the Greyhound Bus Station. A while back, the properties were appraised and offers were made to the owners, but a few of them dug in their heels and accused the city of lowballing them. The owners of seven other properties have already conceded.
- ICE stays. The Metro Council Public Safety Committee had a unanimous vote last night in favor of continuing Davidson County’s 287(g) federal immigration enforcement program including a controversial set of revisions that would make records of the detainees harder to access for the public. The rest of the Metro Council will vote on it tonight.
- More details in McNair case. New details are surfacing in the Steven McNair investigation after CBS ran an investigative report about the final days of both McNair and Sahel Kazemi including some text message conversations, information about her financial situation at the time of death, and accusations that the police mishandled the investigation.
- Bits & pieces. The Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission has about $1 million in fines they need to collect, but they don’t have the staff to do it … Tenneessee schools are getting better about serving healthy food and drinks … Police and community members are getting tired of cleaning up after homeless people … One of Tennessee’s nuclear plants is leaking or something, sort of.
