- This is the final week for public COVID-19 testing at the Charlotte Avenue location before it wraps up Friday. Tennessee has seen a 20 percent increase in cases, but is still near its lowest levels since the pandemic began.
- Vice President Kamala Harris will speak at Tennessee State University’s commencement May 7, so plan your Sunday driving plans between the airport and downtown accordingly.
- A renovated East Nashville shed recently appeared on apartment listings for $1,000 a month before being pulled as Metro Codes investigated whether it had proper permits. The average one-bedroom apartment rents for $1,600 in Davidson County.
- The Tennessee Republican Party booted three candidates from the 5th congressional district race ahead of primary voting this summer for not having “bona fides,” including a Fox News contributor buoyed by a former President’s support. The issue is likely heading to court.
- Nashville SC dropped a 1-0 match to the Los Angeles Galaxy to close out their eight-game season-opening road trip. The team opens the new GEODIS Park next weekend against Philadelphia Union.
- Nashville Predators games last week: Calgary Flames 2 at Predators 3 (W) Tuesday, Predators 2 at Tampa Bay Lightning 6 (L) Saturday, Minnesota Wild 5 at Predators 4 (L-OT) Sunday. The Preds have three games left: Tuesday hosting the Calgary Flames, Thursday at the Colorado Avalanche and Friday at the Phoenix Coyotes.
- The Predators need two points through those last three games, meaning the team needs one regulation win or Vegas Golden Knights need to lose a game in regulation. Either combination will send the Predators to their eighth straight postseason.
- The Predators opened a small dog park adjacent to the arena to serve downtown residents and their pups.
- Mayor John Cooper’s office has released a sustainability dashboard on the city’s website in conjunction with Earth Day, highlighting efforts in the city’s parks.
- Nashville ranked the 10th worst “weed city” in the United States according to a report by a national real estate agency, pointing to fewer head shops (for legal cannabis products) per capita and residents paying a 14 percent premium over their counterparts in other cities. The same report says we do well with the number of Taco Bells per capita, however.
- While it is still early to think about the 2023 Metro elections, at least one candidate is openly talking about a possible run for mayor.
- Timberhawk Hall, a Madison music venue formerly known as the Roots Barn, has a 2023 opening date after its partnership ended with Music City Roots. It is projected to seat around 900 people.
- The FBI has issued a warning to parents and teens about an increase in “sextortion” cases targeting young men.
- This past weekend’s marathon winners were from out of state, and the city says it towed 96 cars ahead of the race.
