- News broke late last week that renovation talks between the city and the Tennessee Titans have been paused to discuss the potential of building a brand new stadium instead.
- Surprising no one, the head of the Convention and Visitors Bureau is fully on board with the new stadium plan, saying that it is key for the city to attract new marquee events.
- The team is committing to “invest heavily” in likely the billion-plus dollar new stadium, but many questions remain about how much it will cost the city to play ball. The franchise is worth about $2 billion according to Forbes.
- Some independent music venues have begun relaxing their vaccine and masking requirements as COVID-19 cases continue to fall throughout the area.
- Tallu Schuyler Quinn, founder of the Nashville Food Project, has died after a battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer. Quinn was 42.
- An Alabama man was arrested after police say he threatened a gate agent at Nashville International Airport over mask wearing. An officer used a taser to subdue the man.
- Metro Nashville Police announced that its most recent police academy class is 40 percent female, bucking a trend of high dropout rate of anyone that wasn’t a white male. The department says it is making an effort to increase gender and racial diversity among its ranks.
- Comedian and talk show host Jimmy Fallon was in town performing on stage with a Grateful Dead cover band at Brooklyn Bowl. Because of course he was.
- Billionaire philanthropist Mackenzie Scott donated $20 million to the United Way of Greater Nashville, easily the largest donation in that organization’s history. The organization plans to spend it on literacy, childcare, and workforce development.
- The Sexual Assault Center is aiming to bring its “Safe Bar” training to Lower Broadway honky-tonks for bystander intervention to prevent sexual assault from happening.
- A Belmont student is at home recovering after being grazed by two bullets from an oncoming car early Saturday morning. Police did not suggest a possible motive.
- Nashville SC is raising money for My Brothers Keeper, a program aimed at addressing the gaps Black men face in life, by selling a $10 patch on its website.
- The Nashville Predators have lost four games in a row, most recently a 5-3 tilt at home to the Carolina Hurricanes. The team heads to Florida to face the Panthers tomorrow night.
- State Representative Mike Stewart (D-52) is retiring at the end of his term, saying he wants to spend his time fighting against false claims of election fraud around the country.
- A survey of 3,100 Middle Tennesseans conducted by the Nashville Chamber of Commerce last year says that a worker shortage is the top issue facing the region, followed by inadequate childcare options, high housing costs and transportation and infrastructure.
- An eight year-old has organized a “Green Team” to help clean a local park in the Nolensville neighborhood.
- Milwaukee appears to be edging out Nashville on the short list of cities to host the 2024 Republican National Convention despite efforts from state leaders to pull in the event. Local officials have been noncommittal about Nashville’s bid.
- Asphalt Beach in East Nashville has reopened its doors nearly two years after the March 2020 tornadoes destroyed many homes in businesses in the Five Points area.
- A drainage issue behind a West End condo complex forces raw sewage onto the ground whenever there is a heavy rain, but city officials say it will take years to fix it. An environmental group has filed a lawsuit because it reaches nearby waterways.
