- Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has allowed the state of emergency he declared at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic to expire, saying that the provisions are no longer necessary. Tennessee remains among the lowest vaccination rates in the country.
- British Airways announced that is resuming non-stop flights from Nashville International Airport to London Heathrow early next month. The route had been canceled at the start of the pandemic.

- The Nashville Convention and Visitors Corp say the time is right to embark on a new strategic plan for the city, saying that the last one focused on the Music City Center which had just opened. The NCVC does not create public policy, but does advise where it intersects with the city’s tourism economy.
- A group that advocates for later school start times says that a fatal crash last week involving an MNPS bus could have been avoided if their recommendations were enacted. The crash is listed as happening “before 6 a.m.”
- The Nashville Scene has debuted a column covering the Metro Council that’s worth a read.
- A Nashville charter school alleges that a basketball official working their game against Smyrna High School used a racial epithet against a girls basketball player, prompting the team to leave the floor and the subsequent boys game to be called off. The TSSAA is investigating, though the association had also sent reprimand letters for unrelated incidents at the game.
- Nashville has been rated the most equitable for LGBTQ people and is the only one in Tennessee above the national average according to the Human Rights Campaign. The report says that the city can do more for transgender residents.
- A controversial Amazon grant proposal that would have funded a position within Metro government for transit-oriented development has been retooled to instead put the money towards general research on the topic.
- News Channel 5 has another installment of its investigative reporting into Gideon’s Army, a non-profit that receives Metro funds for its social justice work, about its accounting practices.
- Metro Police say that an East Nashville man threatened his four children with a machete and forced them to live within squalid conditions in an apartment. He was arrested on assault and child neglect charges.
- The woman who had warned police months earlier about the activity of the man who blew up his RV on Christmas Day last year is suing several groups that promised a reward for information about who was responsible for the bombing. A report from Metro Police would highlight errors made in the handling of her report.
- Police arrested a man who struck another vehicle outside of an elementary school in October, charging him with vandalism and leaving the scene of an accident. The other driver says the damage was around $1,000 and that she has suffered neck and back pain since the incident.
- TSA agents at Nashville International Airport confiscated their 142nd (!) firearm this year over the weekend, because somehow people keep doing that. Violators pay a fine of up to $10,000 in addition to possible jail time.
- Ann Patchett and Karen Hayes sat down for an interview Nashville Scene to talk about Parnassus Books’ tenth year in business and what the future holds.
- The Tennessee Titans (8-3) suffered a soggy 22-13 setback against the visiting Houston Texans (2-8) yesterday afternoon. The team travels to play the New England Patriots (7-4) next week.
- The Nashville Predators (9-7-1) lost 6-3 on the road to the Montreal Canadiens (5-13-2) Saturday night. The Preds host the Anaheim Ducks (10-5-3) tonight and the Las Vegas Golden Knights (11-7-0) on Wednesday.
- Zac Stacy, a former Vanderbilt University football player and now-former ambassador for the Music City Bowl has been arrested in Florida in connection with a domestic violence case. (We’re not actually linking to that story because the released video is really upsetting.)
- Metro Council greenlit the zoning change necessary forĀ a planned 27-story apartment and retail tower meant to replace the current Rite Aid at West End Ave and Elliston Place. The city has negotiated various infrastructure improvements near the busy intersection.
- The Nashville Humane Association would like you to bring another “guest” to your Thanksgiving dinner: a foster dog.
- The Scene‘s J.R. Lind has a new installment of his “Walk a Mile” series, this one about the Madison neighborhood.
- An aardvark named Winsol at the Nashville Zoo needed surgery because a tooth wound up in the animal’s sinuses instead of where it was supposed to go. Winsol is recovering in Knoxville after the successful surgery.
