- Broadway shows are returning to TPAC after nearly 600 days away because of COVID-19 and extended a bit longer because of water damage earlier this month.
- Tennessee’s COVID-19 positive testing rate dropped into the single digits for the first time since July, but experts warn that there are plenty of diagnosed cases that could reverse that trend. Some school districts will wait at least three weeks at that level before changing masking guidance.
- The Metro Council has passed sweeping new regulations for party buses that roll through downtown, with some phasing in over the next six months. At least one operator expects there to be lawsuits opposing the regulations.
- At least one downtown bar owner is not happy with the new regulations and spoke against them prior to the third and final vote. We’ll give you one guess who it is 🙂
- In separate business, the Metro Council will again take up the debate around license plate readers after a previous version was shot down in April of this year. Police say the technology makes communities safer while privacy advocates say the systems are ripe for abuse.
- A new development downtown off Third Avenue aims to turn a parking garage and an often overlooked alley into a center for dining and entertainment.
- The director of Nashville’s Homeless Impact Division has stepped down after four years on the job, with much of her tenure focused on protecting those living in encampments around the city.
- The proposed Metro Council district maps reveal a displacement of the city’s Black community, with demographic shifts being blamed on the rapid gentrification in North Nashville.
- A developer is looking to replace an East Nashville Section 8 apartment complex with a mixed-use development, offering to move those currently in the complex to a newer space in Madison.
- The Nashville Historical Commission has won a $50,000 federal grant to consolidate and curate pieces of the city’s history during the Civil Rights Movement.
- The Tennessee Titans (4-2) beat the Buffalo Bills (4-2) 34-31 on Monday Night Football, knocking off one of the league’s best teams so far this season. The team hosts the Kansas City Chiefs (3-3) on Sunday.
- The Nashville Predators (1-2-0) got their first win 2-1 over the visiting Los Angeles Kings (1-2-0) Tuesday night. The Preds host the New York Rangers (2-1-1) tonight before hitting the road to face the Winnipeg Jets (0-2-1) Saturday and Minnesota Wild (3-0-0) Sunday.
- Nashville SC (11-3-16) earned a 1-1 draw against the Columbus Crew (10-12-8), with both of the games’ goals scored within minutes of each other. Nashville will travel to face the Philadelphia Union (12-8-10) this Saturday.
- Yazoo Brewing has unveiled their “Let My People Gold Lager,” featuring an image of the Nashville SC fan dubbed Soccer Moses on the can.
- A downtown bar is honoring its late chef who was shot and killed outside Bar Louie in the Gulch last summer.
- Passengers out of Nashville International Airport will have a new carrier and new destinations this spring, with Flair Airlines offering direct flights to Toronto and Edmonton. Plan accordingly though, as those flights will only be available two days a week.
- Country music star Garth Brooks will perform for two nights at Ryman Auditorium after his concert at Nissan Stadium was first postponed because of the weather and then canceled because of rising COVID-19 cases.
- The “Opera On Wheels” aims to bring performances from the Nashville Opera to the community at various spots around the city.
