• Seven leaders of Remnant Fellowship Church in Brentwood are presumed dead after a plane crash on Percy Priest Lake in Smyrna. The church was started by Christian diet guru Gwen Shamblin Lara, who was among the victims.
• The owner of hatWRKS was in the news over the weekend for selling yellow Star of David patches with the word “Not Vaccinated” on them for $5. Community members protested in front of the store, and at least two of its major suppliers have said they will pull their product from the shelves.
• A News Channel 5 investigation found that the State of Tennessee has spent nearly half a billion dollars in no-bid contracts during the COVID-19 pandemic, with few rules and little oversight.
• Metro Police have arrested a new suspect in a 2000 murder after Nashville prosecutors recently said that they shouldn’t have convicted a different man for the crime with no witnesses and little evidence. That man served 15 years in prison.
• Nashville SC pulled out a 2-2 against Atlanta United on the road Saturday night after trailing by two goals late to remain undefeated on the season. The team next returns to action June 18 against the New York Red Bulls.
• The Nashville Predators were eliminated 4-3 in overtime by the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 6 of the first round. The Hurricanes move on to face the Tampa Bay Lightning in the second round.
• Tennessee Titans cornerback Janoris Jenkins says his $250,000 Rolls Royce was stolen from the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson south economy lot, with no leads so far on who may have taken it.
• Nashville has fallen well out of the top tier of cities in terms of money spent per resident on parks and recreation, ranking 86th out of 100.
• Grocery store chain Publix is planning to looking to open another Nashville location, this time in Sylvan Park.
