- Hooray! You survived the NFL Draft + Marathon Weekend!
- The city of Nashville will turn over its management of street parking in the city to a private company the administration announced Wednesday. The city stands to make roughly $300 million over the 30 year contract, but there will be other effects, such as the loss of free Sunday parking and enforcement hours going from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
- More than 600,000 people were in downtown Nashville for this year’s NFL Draft, well ahead of projections. Traffic detours will continue this week as they continue tear down.
- The bachelorette parties that came town unwittingly on draft weekend are not exactly happy with their twist of fate, though your Nashvillest staff is baffled how they weren’t deterred by the astronomical hotel prices. We’d like to thank the Internet for giving us these two very meme-able people.
- Police say Ryan Griffin, a tight end for the Houston Texans, punched out a front window of Hotel Indigo on Union Street late Friday night and was rather drunk while doing it. He was arrested and spent an evening in jail.
- Nashville poster printer Hatch Show Print was in on the festivities, producing a poster for all 32 NFL clubs. They have received several calls, and no, they aren’t for sale at the moment.
- In a nod to his late teammate, former Tennessee Titans running back Eddie George wore a Steve McNair jersey to announce the second-round pick. The Titans have a compilation of draft grades for their picks if you’re curious.
- Emanuel Hall, a Centennial high school standout and former University of Missouri wide-receiver, did not get a call this weekend despite some analysts having him going as high as the second round. He did sign a deal with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent.
- A Tennessean columnist joins other commentators in hypothesizing that Nashville’s next goal after landing the NFL Draft should be to land a Super Bowl. But he doesn’t expect it to mean a brand new stadium to host it … maybe.
- A Huntsville, Alabama man lost a wrist watch that belonged to his late grandfather, thinking it fell off near the pedestrian bridge downtown. If you happened to find one, he’d love to talk to you.
- Two downtown restaurants on First Avenue are not exactly singing the praises of the NFL or the city after a disappointing sales week thanks to road closures and little foot traffic. The business owners believe the planning and marketing was too Broadway-centric.
- It was also Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon weekend, where Scott Wietecha of Hendersonville won his seventh straight marathon. Leah Frazier Allen of Dallas was the first woman to cross the finish line.
- Taylor Swift (good grief she’s in the news again?) showed up at the new butterfly wing mural in the Gulch Friday, confirming that the whole thing was a publicity stunt for her new album. The Nashville Scene‘s offices are right next door, so they offered their take on the mania.
- Amazon has joined other large employers in voicing their opposition to a series of anti-LGBT bills filed in the state legislature this session, putting more pressure on lawmakers to scrap the legislation. For the company, it says such laws make it difficult to recruit talent to the state.
- If you ever wondered why some of Brentwood is still in Davidson County, WPLN offers an explanation. Turns out that ZIP code boundaries don’t care much about city or county borders.
- The federal agency that oversees organ transplants has delayed implementing a controversial rule that requires donated livers be given to those in the greatest need rather than proximity. Vanderbilt University Medical Center and other institutions had filed a lawsuit seeking to block the rule change.
