- The Nashville Scene released its annual edition of “The Boner Awards,” an infamous list of people and things that embarrassed the city in the last year. The award is named after a particularly bizarre episode involving a former mayor with marital infidelity (no, not the last one).
- A surgeon at Vanderbilt University Medical Center says that his trauma unit sees at least one “life changing” injury from a dockless scooter accident per month. The scooters from Bird and Lime have lined city streets for most of the year after briefly being banned. ?
- Nashville was a major hub for the slave trade in the 1800s, and a new historical marker acknowledges the overlooked chapter in the city’s history. The marker is at the corner of 4th Ave and Charlotte Ave.
- Kid Rock would like everyone to know he’s not really all that bad of a guy after paying off 350 families’ lay-away balance at a Nashville Walmart, inspired by a similar act of kindness in Atlanta by actor Tyler Perry. Verdict is still out whether that gets him off the naughty list for the parade fiasco. ?
- In yet another Kid Rock story (we’re just as disappointed as you are), the singer will walk in the rescheduled Leiper’s Fork Christmas Parade December 15.
- The US Women’s National Team will play England next March at Nissan Stadium as part of a tournament double-header that will also have Japan taking on Brazil. It is the fourth appearance for the superior US soccer team. ⚽️
- The Nashville Metropolitan Police Department says that applications are down more than half since 2010, a statistic the department attributes to the increased scruitny that officers receive on the job. Another cause is said to be the pay when compared with the cost of living in the city.
- FEMA has signed on to an audit that requests the city of Nashville to pay back around $413,000 in relief funds it received in 2010 as part flood recovery, citing missing documentation and other clerical errors. The city was not asked to repay money that was reallocated to build Ascend Ampitheater.
- The Tennessee Titans (7-6) picked up another win Thursday night at home in their quest for the post season, defeating the Jacksonville Jaguars (4-9) 30-9 in a game where Titans running-back Derrick Henry had a record-tying 99-yard touchdown run. The team heads to New York to face the Giants (5-8) next Sunday.
- A roster-depleted Nashville Predators (19-10-1) team dropped both its Thursday night game in Vancouver (13-16-3) 5-3 and Saturday night’s game in Calgary (19-9-2) 5-2. They will begin a three-game home-stand tomorrow night against the Ottawa Senators (13-14-3).
- Conexión Américas’ Renata Soto will be stepping down as executive director of the organization she co-founded in May, and tells the Nashville Scene that despite their best efforts, she is not running for mayor. The organization is one of the more recognizable immigrate advocacy groups in the city.
- The Nashville Civic Design Center has a plan for Church Street Park should it not become a construction site for a skyscraper as expected. Various committees are expected to take up legislation around a proposed land swap with developer Tony Giarratana early next year.
- WSMV has an interesting take on the 12 days of Christmas, instead highlighting 12 popular scams during the holiday season to watch out for.
- Ford Motor Company is sponsoring a free admission day to the Country Music Hall of Fame next Sunday, December 16 if you haven’t had a chance to check it out. Regular admission is $25.95.
