- Happy Thanksgiving! ?
- We’re sorry for anyone traveling through Nashville International Airport over the holiday weekend. ?
- Folks planning on doing some shopping tomorrow night should be careful about potential scams. As always, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
- Nashville’s Christmas Tree, placed at Public Square Park, will be from Mufressboro rather than within Nashville after a lengthy search. Officials says they prefer one from within Davidson County, but that requires a donor willing to part with one of their trees for the city.
- The report from The Policing Project, delayed until after the Amendment 1 vote earlier this month, shows that Nashville’s increased number of traffic stops does not correlate with a reduction in overall crime. The report was of interest after the shooting death of Daniel Hambrick and Joques Clemmons, both stemming from routine traffic stops.
- Researchers support a “community policing” approach, which relies on officers outside of their vehicles and engaging with the community they serve more often instead of traffic stops. How that is implemented within the city remains to be seen.
- The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office is ending its Sober Ride Home program after 35 years, citing the prevalence of ride-share options as a primary factor in its decision, along with the impassible traffic during the New Year’s Eve festivities downtown. Lyft is offering a discount code this holiday weekend.
- A charity hockey tournament in Antioch netted $2,000 for homeless pets this Tuesday. The money will benefit Metro Animal Care & Control (MACC). ?
- The mayor’s office does not intend to release any details about their pitch to land the “Amazon HQ2” deal for which more than 200 cities across the country had filed bids, flatly rebuffing a reporter’s attempts to find out details. While Nashville did not land one of the headquarters, it did land an “Innovation Center” that is expected to bring 5,000 jobs to the area.
- A Metro Council member is proposing an ordinance for the city to waive the fee charged by tow companies when a vehicle is recovered after being stolen, typically about $165. The tow companies say they need the fee to stay afloat.
- Nashville contractors will now have to go through a mandatory sexual harassment training program before doing work with the city government following an ordinance passed by the Metro Council. The move comes after an unnamed contractor’s employee was accused of harassment.
- The Music City star has cut its later Friday night service to downtown and adjusted other schedule timing in the face of a $20 million budget shortfall because of unplanned federally required improvements. The final later Friday night service will run December 28.
- A rock thrown from a downtown interstate overpass killed one motorist Tuesday morning near the Shelby Ave exit. Police say they do not yet have a suspect, but are reviewing surveillance footage near the scene.
- Three people are dead in a retirement community in Belle Meade in an apparent murder-suicide that appears to have happened some time Tuesday. The two victims and alleged assailant were all over 60 years old.
- Good news for home-buyers in Nashville as the overall inventory of houses for sale is 25 percent higher than it was this time last year, although prices are definitely not 25 percent lower. Mortgage rates are continuing to rise with inflation.
- The Nashville Predators (16-5-1) beat the Tampa Bay Lightning (15-6-1) at home Tuesday 3-2 in a match-up that featured the best two teams in the league and won a 4-1 decision Wednesday over the St. Louis Blues (7-10-3) in Nashville. The Predators travel right back to St. Louis Saturday night.
- You have probably already read that Romaine lettuce has been declared unsafe, but here it is again in case you missed it.
- And finally, the Nashville Humane Association has launched a clever campaign around the city’s most mischievous pets if you would like to donate. ?
