- An attack ad has hit the airwaves against Amendment 1 that would create a community oversight board to handle cases of police misconduct, with a misleading claim about a “tax hike” and overstating the cost of the board. Separately, the Metro Nashville Police Department released numbers indicating that they have handed out disciplinary action against its officers when appropriate.
- A new initiative called “90 in 90” hopes to provide housing to 90 homeless veterans in 90 days. The effort is being lead by Room in the Inn.
- The Metro Public Works Department built about a dozen new sidewalks at the city’s public schools, seeming to ignore a directive from the Metro Council to use the $3 million allotment for bikeways. Some of the new sidewalks had issues related to ADA compliance, however.
- An appraisal has added $1 million to the value of Church Street Park, a smaller parcel of land involved in a proposed land swap with developer Tony Giarratana. The public hearing for the proposal is tonight.
- Also tonight is a hearing for that development at Riverside Village in East Nashville that has several neighbors opposed to it. Community leaders are trying to work with the developer to address their concerns.
- Tennessee State University has broken ground on four new buildings in an effort to stay competitive in recruiting academic talent. The price tag on the two residence halls, health sciences building and alumni welcome center tops out at $100 million.
- Hundreds of people enjoyed a free concert at Ascend Ampitheater Saturday afternoon and then marched to the Howard Office Building for early voting. Students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and artists like Billy Ray Cyrus, Sheryl Crowe and Jason Isbell performed.
- It was a heart-breaker Saturday with Nashville SC (8) losing to FC Cincinnati (1) in a shootout 6-5 in a game that was a 1-1 draw through 90 minutes of play. Nashville SC completed their inaugural season in the USL with attendance records and the team’s first playoff berth, and return to action in spring 2019.
- The Tennessee Titans (3-4) did not complete a two-point conversion at the end of their game against the San Diego Chargers (5-2) Sunday in London, losing 20-19. The team is off next week.
- The Nashville Predators (7-1-0) swept their short trip through Alberta, Canada beating the Calgary Flames Friday night 5-3 and shutting out the Edmonton Oilers (3-3-0) Saturday night 3-0. Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne was injured in the Calgary game, with Juse Sarros coming in relief in the third period and likely starting Tuesday against the San Jose Sharks (4-3-1) back in Nashville.
- Anyone who tuned in during the post-game media availability was in for a rather bizarre scene involving a bull mask and muffled answers to questions. Head coach Peter Laviolette understands that a bet is a bet, though. ?
- The Vanderbilt football team (3-5) lost their fourth straight conference matchup Saturday, dropping a low-scoring game against the #14 Kentucky Wildcats (6-1) 7-14 in Lexington. The Commodores head to Arkansas (2-6) next Saturday.
- A suitcase seized at Nashville International Airport in January contained about a million lethal doses of the drug fentanyl, not cocaine as indicated by an initial field test. A woman was flying from Phoenix with 50 lbs. of marijuana and 5 lbs. of the drug.
- Nashville has been ranked 10th in a list of the nation’s best city for trick-or-treaters according to Nextdoor, a hyperlocal social app. Remember, the best houses give out full-size name-brand candy bars. ?
- With early voting continuing through Thursday, November 1, WPLN takes a look at why the East Nashville community hasn’t received its own early voting location. Spoiler: it’s because residents there do not vote as often as others around town.
- The new owner of Pancake Pantry wants everyone to know that the restaurant is doing everything it can to make its signature lines-out-the-door a thing of the past, and that is not just for tourists. Also, you will soon be able to check the line through a webcam.

- At least four gay bars in Nashville received a postcard that appears to be targeted harassment, featuring a rifle as part of a re-definition of “LGBT” and a return address to a vacant lot. There are no leads on who might be behind the mailing.
- A Tennessee State University football player is recovering in Atlanta following a serious head injury at the end of September in a game against Vanderbilt. Christion Abercrombie, 20, is said to be able move his hands and tell time.
- The National Weather Service says the El NiƱo pattern will either cause higher than average temperatures or lower than average temperatures this winter. Thanks, y’all.
