- Twenty five year old Daniel Hambrick was shot and killed Thursday night by a Metro Nashville Police officer after he emerged from the vehicle with a weapon, police say. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is in charge of the inquiry per a policy put in place after the 2017 death of Jocques Clemmons.
- A commercial real estate group report says that Nashville has added 8,800 tech workers in the last five years, representing a a 43.3 percent increase, the largest increase among its peers in North America. While the rest of the city is struggling with a rapid increase in the cost of living, tech workers have moved to the area citing its relative low cost of living when compared with other areas.
- A former Davidson County Court employee has turned himself in after being charged with allegedly pocketing more than $100,000 in traffic school fees. Investigators say he targeted individuals with limited English proficiency.
- A bar employee at Stirrup has been diagnosed with Hepatitis A, prompting health officials to urge anyone who has gone to the popular LGBQTA bar and entertainment venue to be screened. Since December there have been 60 confirmed Hepatitis A cases in Nashville.
- The much debated “land swap” deal that would trade the park across from the downtown library in exchange for Tony Giarratana building a homeless resource center elsewhere has again been modified, making it a much more complicated transaction. Critics want the park to either be preserved or sold at fair market value, which would be in the millions of dollars.
- The State’s Attorney General’s office has asked for a stay pending appeal of a federal ruling that would force the state to restore driver’s licenses to people who lost them because of unpaid court costs. More than 146,000 people lost their license because of the previous rule between 2014 and 2016.
- Metro Nashville Public Schools administrators say they have made safety a top priority in the coming academic year, with educators receiving additional training for active shooter situations as well as ensuring cameras and fire alarms are in working order.
- Did you know that Vanderbilt University is home to one of the largest archives of news footage in the country, and that for many years the networks did not archive their own broadcasts? Researchers use the archive in their study of how American society has changed over time.
- If you have ever been stuck in traffic and wondered where the hell all these people are coming from, a 2015 report visualized by the Nashville Business Journal may help explain it. While the data is three years old, the patterns are likely consistent with today’s numbers.
- Tennessee Titans offensive lineman Taylor Lewan sure does know how to make an entrance after signing a 5-year, $80 million extension with the team and showing up to the press conference dressed as ‘Boss Hogg’ from the “Dukes of Hazard” television show, complete with music. Making his way, indeed.
- A South Nashville woman says that the Nashville Electric Service caused a tree to fall on her home, a charge that the NES denies. The owner is unable to pay for the removal of the downed tree.
- An Atlanta-bound Delta flight out of BNA had an “engine issue” Wednesday afternoon that rained down shrapnel on businesses near the airport in Donelson, busting out windows and damaging vehicles. The plane was able to safely land back in Nashville.
- Police say a man arrested on Monday for being naked and doing jumping jacks in a McDonald’s women’s restroom was arrested again Tuesday for allegedly huffing spray paint at a Lowe’s. He is awaiting trial on both charges.
- The Convention Center Authority and the Metro Transit Authority (it’s called WeGo everywhere else except when talking about the governing agency) are in talks to transfer some land for a SoBro transit hub to ease congestion on the one dowtown at Charlotte and 5th Avenue. Prior to the May “Let’s Move Nashville” transit referendum defeat, a transit tunnel would have terminated near the site.
