- The Nashville Symphony added to their Grammy collection Sunday night with wins in two categories, Best Classical Compendium and Best Contemporary Classical Composition. ?
- In when-will-they-learn news, a bridge in nearby Murfreesboro will be named “Bridgey McBridgeface” for a single day at some point in the future because 5,400 people suggested the name in an online survey. The final name for the bridge will instead be chosen to honor a local resident.
- The New York Times picked up on the Fort Negley controversy this morning, drawing from a year’s worth of reporting by local historian/heroine Betsy Phillips over at the Scene.
- A lawsuit filed this week says the Stadium Inn in East Nashville is “a hotbed of criminal activity” and seeks damages for an alleged rape at the location in 2015. Police have responded to numerous calls at the hotel over the years.
- Governor Bill Haslam will deliver his final State of the State address tonight at the State Capitol. Protestors filled the gallery last year as part of the “We Are Watching” nationwide movement to hold state legislatures accountable on a variety of social issues.
- WKRN interviewed Mayor Megan Barry to see what her administration planned to do about expected increases in the homless population in Nashville. The mayor cited efforts to increase affordable housing units in the city as one of her administration’s primary initiatives.
- The Nashville Predators (29-11-7) defeated the New Jersey Devils (24-16-8) 3-0 Thursday night on the road before heading into this weekend’s All Star festivities. They return to action tomorrow night at home against the Chicago Blackhawks (23-19-7).
- One fan from Pennsylvania who mistakenly flew into town to see that Predators/Devils game received several gifts from the team, including a handy magnetic schedule.
- A behind-the-scenes feud between owners of the Nashville Predators took a new turn this week as a 2016 deposition indicates that one of the owners asked an employee to access another owner’s email account.
- Metro Police have arrested a man that they say targeted victims on a popular buy/sell/trade app by luring them to a location and then pulling a gun and robbing them. He is a suspect in four such robberies.
- Transit referendum opponents held an event Saturday at Belmont University to present why they are encouraging others to vote “No” on May 1. Supporters also attended the event to hear the talking points first-hand.
- The mayor’s office announced a city-wide hiring freeze and other cuts to cover a $2 million shortfall at Metro General Hospital. The city-owned hospital has served Nashville’s poor with low cost medical care and was thrown into turmoil with a November 2017 announcement that Meharry Medical College will be sending medical students to an HCA hospital instead.
- Nashville will host the Brewers Association Craft Brewers Conference in March, a sign of the city’s booming craft beer scene. There are 22 microbreweries in the city.
- If you get up early Wednesday morning, you can watch a rare Blue Moon/Lunar Eclipse/Super Moon trifecta provided you can see the horizon from your house. Given Middle Tennessee’s hills, you are most likely going to struggle to find a vantage point.
- A Brentwood man is rather upset that the Google Home speaker, a voice-controlled personal assistant powered by the algorithms from the search giant, does not know who Jesus is. Our advice: don’t ask an inanimate object that queries the Internet deep philosophical questions, maybe?
