- Nashville Mayor Megan Barry met with the President at the White House to discuss infrastructure, despite other city mayors’ boycott during a conference in Washington, D.C. The mayor is particularly interested in federal matching funds for her proposed transit plan.
- The Metro Council has approved new rules for short-term rentals, barring investor owned properties of less than three units from residential zoned neighborhoods in a three-year phase out period. Other proposals favored by industry players would have introduced other restrictions in exchange for unencumbered expansion.
- Monday night’s committee meeting was interrupted by an apparent squirrel saboteur that knocked out power to most of the downtown Nashville area. The online stream of the meeting was restored several minutes later.
- Nashville’s music industry is at the center of proposed legislation that would benefit songwriters through better pay from royalties from hit songs on digital streaming platforms. Both of Tennessee’s U.S. Senators joined six other sponsors in advancing the bill.
- The school shooting this week in Marshall County, Kentucky had a Nashville connection as several of the injured were airlifted and received treatment at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. It was the 11th such incident in the first few weeks of 2018.
- The council also advanced the $5.4 billion transit referendum to be voted on May 1 after an amendment failed to account for the “actual cost” of the move (estimated at $8.95 billion) because that has not been how previous projects were booked.
- Metro Schools endured a dubious milestone with 36 students dying during the school year, the highest in a decade. Thirty six students lost their lives, with many as a result of violence.
- The community has rallied behind the residents of an apartment building destroyed by a fire Monday night in Bellevue. The Creekwood Apartments fire displaced dozens of residents.
- “Stormy Daniels,” the porn star at the heart of an alleged scandal from the sitting president, will be in Nashville from March 29-31 at Dejá Vu strip club because nothing matters.
- Gene Simmons of KISS was in town Tuesday night at Mercy lounge with a cover band. We figure anyone who cared was already at the event.
- The Nashville Predators (28-11-7) snapped their five game winning streak with an overtime loss to the league leading Tampa Bay Lightning (33-12-3). The Preds will travel to face off with the New Jersey Devils (24-15-8) tonight.
