- A preliminary archeological study at the Greer Stadium site for a new development says there is a “high likelihood” that there are human remains on the property. That could complicate efforts by the Cloud Hill Partnership to begin construction on what preservationist say is a burial ground for hundreds of slaves that built Fort Negley.
- The city has asked a judge to dismiss the “Save our Fairgrounds” group’s lawsuit, arguing that they lack provable injury from the proposed Major League Soccer stadium. The MLS is expected to announce its expansion team awardees later this month.
- The Mayor’s office gave a presentation about the proposal to build a 1.8 mile downtown transit tunnel under Fifth Avenue on Thursday. Planners cited downtown’s narrow streets as a reason the tunnel made the most sense to keep traffic moving.

- The original Shoney’s Restaurant was razed in Madison to make way for a huge new development that bills itself as “the next Green Hills.” We aren’t sure if that was meant as a threat.

- Two North Nashville car washes have been hit with Molotov cocktails in the last month without any apparent motive. Police are unsure if the incidents are connected.
- Police evacuated the Berry Hill Goodwill store after someone phoned in a bomb threat and a suspicious package was found inside the store.
- A Vanderbilt University neuroscientist has published a study that says that dogs have higher cognitive abilities than cats and several other mamals, based on their brain capacity. Upon hearing the news, your cat still won’t care.

- The Nashville Predators (16-7-3) suffered a third period collapse in a 3-5 game against the Vancouver Canucks (13-10-4) for a rare home loss Thursday night before winning a bruising game against the Anaheim Ducks (11-11-5) on Saturday in the shootout. The Preds next play back-to-back games against the Boston Bruins (12-8-4) tonight at Bridgestone Arena and then fly off to face the Dallas Stars (16-10-1) tomorrow.
- The Tennessee Titans (8-4) picked up another win over the Houston Texans (4-8) on Sunday at home to stay ahead in the AFC South race. The Titans travel to Arizona next Sunday to face the Cardinals (5-7).
- The Vanderbilt University community mourned the death of Perry Wallace, the first black basketball player to play in a Southeastern Conference game 50 years ago. Wallace was 69.
- US Representatives Jim Cooper (D, TN-5) and Marsha Blackburn (R, TN-7) have joined together in a rare display of bipartisanship to expose so-called “Hush Funds” for sexual harassment and assault claims in congress. Critics say the sealed records do little to protect victims and have cost taxpayers an estimated $17 million.
- The University of Kentucky and Northwestern will face off in the Music City Bowl on December 29. In other words, prepare to see a lot blue downtown leading up to New Year’s Eve.
