- A vigil was held Monday night for victims of the attack in Las Vegas at a country music festival. Local artists addressed the crowd.
- Twitter erupted Monday on a (now deleted) tweet from a reporter that Nashville had been awarded an MLS franchise that would begin play in 2018. This “news” came a few hours before the mayor and backers presented a plan for financing a new stadium for a potential team. The reporter has walked back his story about as far away as he can.
- There are some critics of the mayors office’s plan to finance the deal and how has been touted as “90 percent” private investment, saying the city is on the hook for far more than they are saying. - A proposed Metro ordinance would make transit components a requirement for any project that receives financial incentives. Companies that did not comply would lose those incentives.
- In other council news, they punted the regulation changes of short-term rental properties (STRPs) until their January meeting on a very close margin.
- The “tiny home” community in Woodbine broke ground Wednesday after months of delays and neighbors voicing concerns about the project. The church plans to have 22 units on the church property.
- WKRN took a look into whether Nashville area hospitals could handle a mass casualty event. Answer: Yes, but it would not be easy.
- The Tennessee Air National Guard wing out of Nashville will be deployed to Puerto Rico to assist with recovery efforts there.
- The hotel industry is facing similar shortages to the food service industry in finding employees in Nashville. The positions needed aren’t glamorous.
- You might have noticed a lot more folks on the sidewalk on your morning commute yesterday because of National Walk to School Day. The mayor participated in the festivities.
- A guy was arrested for having more than 25 lbs. of marijuana in his Donelson home while another guy was arrested for having 30 lbs. of it in his luggage at the airport. That’s a lot of weed, y’all.
- Summer sucks, drop the puck! The Nashville Predators open their season tonight in Boston against the Bruins. They will then get a rematch with the Penguins in Pittsburgh Saturday before raising their banner at home Tuesday against the Philadelphia Flyers.
- Finally in feel good news, a colorblind art teacher at Two Rivers Middle School was presented with special glasses that would allow her to have normal color vision. Colorblindness is exceedingly rare in women.
