- Tennessee firefighters again honored fallen colleagues in the September 11 attacks by climbing the Tennessee Tower in full gear yesterday. Money raised from the event benefits a counseling organization for NYC firefighters.

- A group called Transit for Nashville is launching a non-binding petition drive to drum up support for a future transit ballot referendum that requires two-thirds support from Metro Council (and not a petition). While signing the petition does not trigger any legislative move, the results will be frequently cited when Nashville votes on possible light rail projects.

- A pair of Nashvillians were rescued by the FBI after being stranded on an island in the Bahamas as Hurricane Irma made its way through the Caribbean.
