- Two bills advanced by the Metro Council to reduce cooperation with federal immigration officials have been withdrawn following a legal opinion by the city attorney indicating they were unenforceable. The effort had drawn heavy criticism from state lawmakers outside of Nashville.
- Three Vanderbilt football players have been suspended from the team after their alleged involvement in a shooting outside of the Target on White Bridge Road. The men were said to be attempting to recover a stolen cell phone.
- A man convicted of bank robbery stabbed a Robertson County Sheriff’s deputy while at a medical appointment at Vanderbilt One Hundred Oaks clinic. The inmate was fatally wounded when another deputy intervened.
- Belle Meade continues to operate traffic cameras despite a county wide ban passed by the Metro Council. They can do that as one of the “satellite cities” that maintain their own police force.
- The former home of Fat Bottom brewery in East Nashville is about to undergo a $4 million rennovation to add a second floor. The building is also home to Butcher & Bee and Scout’s barbershop.
- The Nashville International Airport may come under private management if preliminary discussions advance that far. The yet-to-be-formalized plan is seen as a way to raise funding for transit.
- Go ahead and read through the new laws that go into effect tomorrow, July 1. The topics range from fines for protesting that blocks an emergency vehicle to a new gas tax aimed at improving roadways across the state.
- A former driving examiner — the person who certifies you passed your test — and three others were sentenced Monday for their involvement in a bribery scheme that allowed unqualified folks get licenses.
- Yet somehow, Nashville drivers are supposedly not as bad as we all think. One of our co-founders was rear-ended on Tuesday by somebody texting and driving, so she’s not as convinced.
- A Nashville man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly kidnapping a woman after their first date in December. No word on if he had any other Tinder matches in the six months it took to finally arrest him.
