Happy weekend, Nashville. This weekend is packed full of springtime fun, from Earth Day to Egg Hunts to a good, old fashioned zombie prom. Don’t let looming showers keep you indoors! All of our picks for this weekend will take place rain or shine.
Nashville Earth Day Festival. Saturday, April 23 at Centennial Park, 11am-7pm, free. Nashville’s Earth Day celebration has always been a blast, but this year’s festival promises to be the best yet as Mayor Dean continues to plug away at making Nashville the greenest city in the southeast. Musical entertainment from Sarah Siskind, Ballhog!, The Greencards and Victor Wooten & Family will provide the soundtrack for the day, and there’s bound to be food carts and trucks galore to sustain you as you browse the booths and take home freebies from earth-friendly vendors.
Nashville Rollergirls v. Kansas City Roller Warriors. Saturday, April 23 at Municipal Auditorium, 5:30pm, $10 advance/$15 doors. We’ve already gushed about our love for Nashville roller derby this week, so we don’t think much more needs to be said. We expect to see you all out at the Rollergirls’ home season opener!
Spring Art Hop. Saturday, April 23 at Cheekwood, 11am-4pm, free for members and children under 5 / $12 adult non-member / $5 child non-member. Cheekwood’s 19th annual Spring Art Hop is this Saturday, and it promises to be fun for the whole family. Beautiful spring gardens for the grownups and face painting, balloons, egg hunts, magic shows and art projects for the wee ones.
Promocalypse 2011. Saturday, April 23 at Cannery Ballroom, 9pm, $10 in advance, 18+. Promocalypse is that very special night for the living dead, wink wink nudge nudge. Zombie attire is optional (though strongly encouraged), but you’d better come dressed for prom and ready to dance. There will be food! There will be drinks! There will be dancing! There will be zombies!
Eggstravaganzoo. Saturday, April 23 at the Nashville Zoo, 9am-6pm, regular zoo admission prices. The zoo will hide 30,000 plastic eggs for the kiddos in their annual tongue-twisting eggstravaganzoo. Even the animals will be hunting eggs, and we’re not really sure how that works, but we’re intrigued. Bunny games and other family-friendly fun will attract one of the Nashville Zoo’s biggest crowds of the year, so be prepared to face the masses if you go.
Lightning 100 “Mystery Show.” Sunday, April 24 at 3rd & Lindsley, 6pm doors/8pm show, $10. Lightning 100 isn’t telling you who’s playing at their “mystery show” this Sunday, but they did post this list of clues which doesn’t really leave much to the imagination (thanks, Google!). Ten bucks is a steal for a show like this, so pick up a ticket early before it sells out.
Game 6: Preds v. Ducks. Sunday, April 24 at the Bridgestone Arena, 5pm, regular ticket prices apply. No matter the outcome of tonight’s Game 5 in Anaheim, the Preds will be coming back to Nashville for Game 6 this Sunday and they need every seat filled to cheer them on to victory. Start practicing your fang fingers now!
