Good morning, Nashville. A new federal stimulus grant has awarded $7.5 million to Nashville for fighting and preventing obesity. With the new funding, Metro hopes to create 40 full-time and 40 part-time jobs to help get the program off the ground. Though the details of the plan aren’t completely clear yet, we do know that there will be a “media blitz” to promote nutrition, health and wellness in addition to stepping up the effort to bring urban gardens and readily-available fresh produce to all parts of Nashville.
- Car crashes into court house. A person driving a stolen car crashed it into the front steps of the Metro Court House, actually making it up two flights of stairs before the car caught on fire. Police said the man was traveling at excessive speeds (no kidding) and is in critical condition at a local hospital.
- Singing the Blues. The Preds took down the St. Louis Blues last night 3-2 to rack up their sixth straight win. Now we just need Jason Arnott to stop hurting himself.
- Bits & pieces. Lipscomb University is in some hot water after offering some shady recruiter incentives … Our friends at Blood:water Mission will be taking to the streets downtown tonight, rain or shine, to raise awareness for World Water Day … Don’t forget about the groundbreaking today for the Music City Center, which may tie up some traffic downtown.
