Once in a blue moon, Nashvillest gets so excited about some live music rolling through town that we can’t help but share our love with y’all, and tonight’s Elvis Perkins/AA Bondy bill at the Mercy Lounge meets the criteria. A mellow evening of melodic folk music by a pair of top-notch songwriters? Yes please. Opener AA Bondy has toured with the likes of Bon Iver and Conor Oberst, and we spent so much time spinning his debut record that we were reluctant to make room for his August release, When The Devil’s Loose (but we’re oh-so-glad that we did).
Headliner Elvis Perkins won our hearts with “Shampoo,” the gritty, bittersweet single off of his sophomore effort Elvis Perkins in Dearland. Swinging trombones, yawning harmonicas, and heart-heavy melodies mesh the soul of a subway busker with the richness of a seasoned composer.
If you’re not sold on shelling out $10 for a ticket tonight, check out AA Bondy’s 6pm in-store at Grimey’s tonight. It’s free, but don’t say we didn’t warn you if you find yourself heading toward the Mercy Lounge at 9pm for more.
