Happy Hour: Dividing And Conquering
- Roane County has made quick work of the $43 million given to them by the TVA as a peace offering for spilling 5 million cubic yards of toxic nastiness all over Kingston. Most of the money will be going towards schools, and the remainder will be set aside for roads, sewers, libraries, and a new arts center. [WSMV]
- The numbers are in and it looks like we had our second-wettest September in recorded history, coming up about 0.35″ shy of the record set in 1979. [WTVF]
- The Music City Star commuter train could be adding a new stop in Lakewood and will be conducting a two-week trial period to see if there’s enough interest. [WTVF]
- Our friends over at the Scene made the priceless discovery that tickets for Creed’s Sommet Center appearance have been dropped to $7.79 which, as they point out, is actually cheaper than buying a beer at the venue. Ouch! [Nashville Cream]

Free Fall Weekend At Cheekwood [Freebies]
It’s been a while since we’ve enjoyed a nice free day at Cheekwood, and with the recent temperature drop, this weekend is a perfect time to throw on a hoodie and roam around outdoors enjoying the new season. Cheekwood, normally $10 at the door, is free this Saturday and Sunday. Saturday hours are 9:30am-4:30pm and Sunday hours are 11am-4:30pm.
And to make things even more fun, Cheekwood has a fall display of 65 scarecrows scattered around the gardens. We’re planning a fall weekend full of apple picking, scarecrow-hunting and pumpkin spice lattes – who’s with us?

Bright & Early: Just Say No To H1N1 Edition
Good morning, Nashville. Unlike several other states, Tennessee won’t be requiring any of its residents to be vaccinated for H1N1. The first batches of the vaccine are set to arrive in our state next week but will go to high-risk professionals such as hospitals and health care providers. The next round will be reserved for pregnant women, small children, and young adults. Everyone else should be able to receive it at the end of this month or in early November.
- Concern over Tent City. Metro Police are becoming increasingly concerned about the crime rate increase around Nashville homeless encampment Tent City, which was supposedly being evicted gradually over a year ago. They say that residents are returning and despite the 18% decrease in crime in the Central Precinct, crime is up by 21% around the encampment. Metro Councilman Erik Cole maintains that repeated arrests aren’t effective without the appropriate support services in place.
- Healthcare costs on the rise. A new study shows that Tennessee’s healthcare costs could increase by 67% by 2019 in the worst-case scenario if there is no systemic reform.
- Bits & pieces.
