Happy Hour: Number Nine
- In an effort to appear cool (and okay, also to bring more live music to Nashville), Mayor Dean is teaming up with Lightning 100 to bring a number of free shows to the public square downtown. We won’t find out who’s playing until the press conference tomorrow. [City Paper]
- When he’s not hatin’ on will.i.am or getting punched in the face or creating drama on the internet, Perez Hilton is now bashing Nashville by truly hitting us where it hurts: our country accents. Ouch. [Pith In The Wind]
- Because everything has a Nashville connection, a woman from middle Tennessee hit the proverbial Michael Jackson jackpot and was one of winners of the ticket lottery for his memorial service out in LA. [WSMV]
- Metro Police were able to confirm today that the gun used to kill Steve McNair and Sahel Kazemi belonged to Kazemi and was purchased on Thursday night. There still aren’t any definitive answers as to what happened or why, but there’s plenty of shadiness to go around. [Tennessean]
- Jeff Fisher, who was on his way home from the Persian Gulf when all of this was going down, finally gave a press conference today and it was pretty gut-wrenching. [Tennessean]

Photo Of The Day: July 6, 2009
One of our favorite Fourth of July photos comes to us from ninaradio, who obviously snapped it before the Great Fourth Of July Monsoon of ’09.
Photo Of The Day will be a recurring feature for Nashvillest as long you keep giving us stuff to post. Don’t worry–we’ll give you props. Just add them to the pool or tag them with “Nashvillest” if you’re feeling lazy.

Bright & Early: Just Another Manic Monday Edition
Good morning, Nashville. So this weekend wasn’t quite as relaxing as we’d hoped, but somehow despite the craziness of Steve McNair’s death, our souvenir sunburns from the Hot Chicken Festival, and The Great Fireworks Monsoon of ’09, we’ve still rolled into Monday morning in once piece. As of this morning, developments in the McNair case are still dominating the headlines: Investigators have now confirmed that he and Saleh Kazemi were definitely dating, neighbors are saying that they often saw Titans hanging out at her apartment, and someone even dug up a bunch of pictures of his Green Hills home that was up for sale. As details continue to come out, we’re still incredibly saddened by whole situation and kind of wish this weekend had never happened. The public memorial will be held Thursday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in White’s Creek at 3pm. Meanwhile, the makeshift memorial at his new restaurant, Gridiron9, continues to grow.
- Noooo! Speaking of restaurants, we know we’ve got some Las Palmas fans in our midst who will be sad to hear that the Antioch Pike location totally caught on fire last night. Fortunately the damage was minimal and it should be back up and running in no time. Close call, though.
- Franklin smells. The city of Franklin is getting a little cranky, understandably, about a foul odor wafting over their neighborhoods from the Superior Essex plant. It’s gotten so bad that they actually held a public meeting about it and have been “encouraged to keep a log, writing down the date and time the odor hits their neighborhood.” If anyone wants to scan a page from their log and e-mail it to us, we would love you forever.
- Bits & pieces. If you ever wonder about the magical journey of your Netflix discs to and from your mailbox, now is your chance to find out … It’s easier than ever to search the criminal history of anyone in Davidson County … Metro Schools are getting 50 new teachers courtesy of the Teach for America program … For the last time, Kellie Pickler and Kid Rock are not dating.
A year ago on Nashvillest: We welcomed 8,500 barbershop quartet singers into town for their annual conference, found out Where The Locals Eat, and shirked our blogging responsibilities.
