Happy Hour: The End Of An Era

- Nashville lost a hero yesterday. Eddie Jones, the man responsible for legalizing liquor by the drink in Nashville, passed away on Sunday at the age of 85. [Tennessean]
- After accidentally hiring someone wanted on child sex charges (oops!), Metro Nashville Public Schools have wisely decided to look back over the other 4,800 support staff they currently employ. [WZTV]
- The city’s syphilis rates have doubled in the past two years. Gross? [WSMV]
- We already mentioned how some VA hospitals, including the one in Murfreesboro, accidentally exposed some patients to Hepatitis B and C. It now looks as though they also accidentally gave someone HIV. [Tennessean]
- If you haven’t already, bring in those plants! [WKRN]

Photo Of The Day: April 6, 2009
As a part of our effort to forget about what’s happening outside our office windows right now, we’ll just keep staring at this whimsical photo by Peppysis which, if you’ll notice, contains no snow.
Photo Of The Day will be a recurring feature for Nashvillest as long you keep giving us stuff to post. Don’t worry–we’ll give you props. Just add them to the pool or tag them with “Nashvillest” if you’re feeling lazy.

Bright & Early: We’ve Got A Case Of The Mondays Edition

Good morning, Nashville. Do you see this? The beautiful redbud trees, clear and brilliant blue skies, and the sunshine? This was the scene on Saturday, but it will not be the scene today. Nay, today it will probably snow. And if we seem upset about this, it’s because we are. We’ve gone from 76 and sunny to cloudy with a chance of snow and tornados in the span of three days. Also, North Korea probably fired off a missile over the weekend and there was a giant earthquake in Italy last night. Off to a great start this week, right?
- At least he’s not from Nashville. This year’s ACM Awards were everything we hoped for and more after Toby Keith screamed at some Tennessean reporters in the press room about a story they ran a few days ago. Something about “(expletive) super-sized French fries” and Moby Teeth? Don’t ask us.
- Lord help us. File this one under “Things we never knew we needed until we–” Okay, no, we really don’t need this: Some guy wants to tarnish the landscape with a giant statue of Elvis right across the street from our beautiful new Schermerhorn Symphony Center. Because Elvis is from Nashville and everything.
- Bits & pieces. The Preds had a big win on Saturday against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday, bumping them up into 8th place … Some folks in West Nashville woke up with a dead stranger in their house … Rep. Brenda Gilmore (D-Nashville) wants all Tennessee inmates tested for HIV … Metro is finally preparing to buy up the land for the new convention center, so goodbye Rocketown.
