Happy Hour: If A Tree Falls In A Forest…
- The Tennessean reports on Mayor Dean’s trail of destruction downtown on Deadrick St.: “Startled passers-by are stopping to stare at the tree carcasses lying across the sidewalk.” [Tennessean]
- Speaking of tree carcasses, the Great Middle Tennessee Drought Of ‘08 has taken at least one Christmas tree farm out of commission. [WRKN]
- We may still have hope in the whole we-really-need-wine-in-our-grocery-stores debacle. [WTVF]
- Nashvillian Eric Volz, who was stuck in a Nicaraguan prison for 15 months for a murder he clearly didn’t commit, just got word today that he’s going to be retried in absentia. [WSMV]
- The two teens who drove off in a police van yesterday are back in custody after wandering in the Baptist Hospital this afternoon. [WKRN]

Photo Of The Day: November 17, 2008
We were sad to see so many of the leaves go with the wind this weekend, but by the looks of our pool, many of you were able to snag pictures of them before they came down. This one is courtesy of out the other, who also runs one of our favorite local music blogs.
Photo Of The Day will be a recurring feature for Nashvillest as long you keep giving us stuff to post. Don’t worry–we’ll give you props. Just add them to the pool or tag them with “Nashvillest” if you’re feeling lazy.

Bright & Early: Prison Break Edition
Good morning, Nashville. It seems like it was quite the weekend for teenage prison breaks! Three 16-year olds being transported in a state van hopped in the driver’s seat and took off when the guard got out to inspect damage from an accident. One of the three turned himself in, but the other two are still on the loose. In a separate incident, another teen escaped from a restaurant. He asked to use the restroom and then jumped into a white car that pulled up to the building. He’s still on the run, too, and is considered dangerous.
- 10-0! So how about those Titans? When they were behind at halftime, we thought this might be the end of the road. But they pulled through and took down Jacksonville 24-14 to bring their record to an unbelievable 10-0.
- Stopping the h8. An estimated 200 Tennesseans made it out to the Proposition 8 protest at the Metro Courthouse on Saturday. The protest was part of a national series that took place in dozens of cities across the country.
- Bits & pieces. The federal government gave $1.2M to United Neighborhood Health Services to provide free primary health care to Nashville’s homeless … It’s looking like the auto industry bailout might be happening after all, which is good news for Tennessee’s plants … Wachovia’s ongoing troubles might be screwing over the developers of the new 5th & Main condos in East Nashville … A woman set herself on fire in a West Nashville church yesterday.
