Happy Hour: Feeding The Animals

  • Girl Talk probably won’t be playing the Cannery again any time soon. Something about “younger and stupider” fans making half the stage collapse and everyone getting kicked out or something? Wish we were there! [Tennessean]
  • Speaking of mobs, the Trader Joe’s opened this morning and there are still cops directing traffic around the parking lot. [Tennessean]
  • MTSU seems to have finally rid themselves of all the terrorists, but the armed robbers are still out in full force doing what they do best. [WKRN]
  • A handful of people got into a fight outside of the Fuel nightclub downtown last night and one man ended up stabbed. No word on how bad his injuries were. [WKRN]
  • Tomorrow morning brings a star-studded induction ceremony for the Music City Walk of Fame. Martina McBride, Little Richard, Trace Adkins, and Elvis Presley are among the folks who will be inducted. If you’re dying to catch it, it’s free and open to the public. [WTVF]

This Weekend: Shaping Up To Be A Boozy Good Time

We just love it when the weekend’s events turn out to involve alcohol. Or when they’re centered around alcohol. Hey, don’t wag your fingers at us… We know you love it too (one of our most popular posts ever was beer-centric), so we thought we’d let you know about a couple things happening this weekend that provide the perfect excuse to throw back a few. Have a merry, boozy weekend.

YAZOO BREWERY’S 5TH BIRTHDAY PARTY

Yazoo invites everyone to join them at the brewery on Saturday for their 5th birthday bash from 2pm until “late.” Live music begins at 8pm and South Street restaurant will be on site to fry up some catfish. And let’s not forget the beer. They’ve whipped up a handful of new beers for the occasion: Rye Saison, Wet Hop Harvest Ale, and we’ve heard rumors of a couple more. We fully expect our friends at Beer School Blog to give us lowdown on the beers, but why not experience them firsthand?

BEER, BOURBON & BBQ FESTIVAL

It doesn’t get much better than this, right? Saturday from noon until 6pm, the Municipal Auditorium will be home to scores of beer, bourbon and BBQ vendors, all ready to fill your handy souvenir glass on demand. Everything but the BBQ is included in the $30 admission price – Not a shabby deal for over 60 beer samples and over 40 bourbon samples.

Photo Of The Day: November 7, 2008 [Feel Good Friday]

Remember this guy? Here’s another one with better hair (and hopefully better teeth.) Alpaca, Nashville Zoo at Grassmere, by rhutch.

Photo Of The Day will be a recurring feature for Nashvillest as long you keep giving us stuff to post. Don’t worry–we’ll give you props. Just add them to the pool or tag them with “Nashvillest” if you’re feeling lazy.

Bright & Early: Out With The Old Edition

Good morning, Nashville. There was a huge stir when Metro Schools decided to start making their kids wear school uniforms. But now that the program has been in place for a couple of years, its success seems to be inspiring other midstate school systems to give it a go. Earlier this week, Robertson County announced that they were considering the switch and have sent out surveys to parents, faculty, and students to test the waters.

  • More new voter machines. Tennessee election officials are getting ready to toss the current voter machines to make way for the new ones they plan to purchase because of a decision by last year’s General Assembly. Despite the fact that they’d just bought $25M worth of machines for the current election, they’ll be requiring a new kind by 2010.
  • Counting calories. The public hearing about restaurant menu labeling sounds like it was pretty rough yesterday, drawing a huge turnout of restaurant owners who would be affected by the new regulation. Though the proposal won’t be voted on until February, you can still submit some feedback of your own until December 6th.
  • Bits & pieces. Trader Joe’s is open, y’all!! Stop by today for some special deals and some general Trader Joes goodness … Who thought painting a railroad bridge would be such a big deal? … Southwest is adding 5 flights to BNA’s schedule and dropping the one to San Diego.
