Happy Hour: Let The Games Begin
- Check out the live C-SPAN Debate cam for some riveting live footage of the media tent. It might get rowdy later with Anheuser-Busch’s tent next door. [CSPAN]
- There’s also some footage of Barry’s motorcade rolling down Wedgewood and turning onto 12th Ave. earlier this afternoon. [Pith In The Wind]
- All eyes are on us! Well, us meaning “them,” since we’ll probably be drinking beer on someone’s front porch. [WKRN]
- And let us not forget about the protesters. And also Cindy McCain showing up at Vandy. [WTVF]
- And finally, the ridiculously long list of options you have for watching things go down tonight. [Tennessean]

Don’t miss out on the Belmont Block Party which actually started at noon, but runs straight up until 6:30pm. The party promises plenty of local food & drink, live music, and tons of opportunities to be on TV in case you missed out this morning. MSNBC’s Chris Matthews will even be doing Hard Ball, and we fully expect at least one of you guys to leave your mark on the broadcast. For more information, check out the official flier and try to stop by after work!

Photo Of The Day: October 7, 2008
We couldn’t get over the colors in this well-composed silhouette shot of a rural sunset in Middle Tennessee. Thanks to regular contributor Chris1051 for the submission.
Photo Of The Day will be a recurring feature for Nashvillest as long you keep giving us stuff to post. Don’t worry–we’ll give you props. Just add them to the pool or tag them with “Nashvillest” if you’re feeling lazy.

Walk Nashville Week Is Running Away
People, people, people… Walk Nashville Week is, like, running away from us! It started on Saturday but we’ve been so busy poking our noses where they don’t belong around Belmont that we totally forgot to write about it. Now, many of you may consider the Great Gas Crisis of Aught Eight to have been your Walk Nashville Week (it sure was for us)… but don’t let that stop you from getting out and walking around our very un-walkable city this week too. Today is Walk Your Neighborhood Day, which we’ll be taking advantage of as we tramp from Green Hills to Belmont tonight because all of the roads are closed.
Walk Nashville Week may be halfway over, but it’s a great reminder to get out and WALK somewhere instead of hopping into the car by habit.
- October 7 – Walk Your Neighborhood Day
- October 8 – Walk To School Day
- October 9 – Walk For Active Aging Day
- October 10 – Walk to Lunch

Bright & Early: D-Day Edition
Good morning, Nashville. Debate Day is finally here, and it’s already gotten off to an interesting start, complete with motorcade traffic all over Broadway and John Rich getting mobbed by Obama supporters on the CBS Early Show (look for that one on Youtube later). We don’t really know what else to say, except that we expect all of you to have your camera phones out and ready to go for all the day’s festivities. If you get anything good, be sure to drop us a line at tips@nashvillest.com. And as you’re out and about today and this evening, don’t forget to plan around the road closures. And since all news is debate news today:
- Morning debate roundup. Hatch Show Print gets their day in the spotlight … They love us, they really love us! … Everyone around Belmont’s campus enjoyed an overnight security sweep by secret service last night … Good job on rushing the Davidson County Election Commission yesterday, folks … Chocolate Graphics downtown at the Arcade is tapped to make the special presidential debate chocolates … All of this mess is keeping the local campaign offices busy … Follow the debate buzz on Twitter at #nashdebate … McCain’s in town already (as everyone stopped in traffic last night knows), and Obama gets in this afternoon.
