Happy Hour: Too Many Tires

- Is it that time of year again? The CMA nominations were announced today and Kenny “I Hate Fan Voting” Chesney leads the back with 7 nominations this year. As long as it’s not John Rich. [WTVF]
- We’d almost forgotten about those failed buyout offers that the state threw out to its employees in hopes of bailing us out of some serious financial trouble. They’re so bad that even the 80-year olds aren’t having it. [Tennessean]
- Why do so many kids have brass knuckles (and box cutters… and knives… and guns)? We’re taking them away. Kids these days. [WSMV]
- Bridgestone Americas is feeling the heat from the economy these days too. They’re being forced to reduce production through the end of the year, cutting over 20 days of work at both the LaVergne and Warren County plants. [Nashville Business Journal]

Jessica Simpson Can’t Really Pull It Off [Jessica Simpson]
With her brand spankin’ new country album hitting the shelves yesterday, not-so-Nashvillian Jessica Simpson was making the morning show rounds performing hit single “Come On Over.” In this clip from Tuesday morning’s Good Morning America, we see Jessica doing her best country impression, and while we’re happy to see that she’s ditched the cowboy getup she was seen sporting at LAX this summer, but we’re not convinced that she’ll ever be able to pass herself off as “a country girl at heart.”

Photo Of The Day: September 10, 2008
Even though we’re Music City, big-name locals seem to steer clear of their hometown when it comes to charting out major tours (or maybe we’re just not paying attention.) But back in July, Keith Urban opened for Kenny Chesney’s Poets and Pirates Tour at LP Field just two days before he and Nicole welcomed Sunday Rose Kidman Urban into the world. This well-composed shot by gjohnsonxx captured a piece of the action in one of the hottest shows of Nashville’s summer.
Photo Of The Day will be a recurring feature for Nashvillest as long you keep giving us stuff to post. Don’t worry- We’ll give you props. Just add them to the pool or tag them with “Nashvillest” if you’re feeling lazy.

Sweet Snacks: Take A Bite Of Jeff Fisher
No, we’re not endorsing cannibalism here at Nashvillest. This weekend, Purity Dairies’ new Jeff Fisher’s Football Frenzy ice cream hits shelves, and we think it’s pretty awesome. What flavor is Jeff Fisher? We’re glad you asked. Jeff Fisher is apparently vanilla (heh, heh) with a smooth caramel swirl and has peanut butter footballs mixed in.
“The introduction of Jeff Fisher’s Football Frenzy is Purity’s way of thanking the Titans for bringing entertainment, excitement and great sportsmanship to Tennessee for ten years,” said Tim Tracy, ice cream sales manager at Purity Dairies. “The Purity Dairies family is proud to share a hometown with the Titans, and we are pleased to share Jeff Fisher’s Football Frenzy with ice cream lovers and Titans fans alike.”
Purity Dairies is matching the new flavor with a Titans contest as well. Ten lucky Titans lovers will win a pair of Titans tickets, VIP Tailgating Party passes, and hotel accommodations for the night. The contest deadline is October 8. If you win, maybe you can get Jeff Fisher to autograph your ice cream for you.

Bright & Early: Batten Down The Hatches Edition
Good morning, Nashville. We’re bracing ourselves for an invasion, and we’re not talking about Georgia this time. It seems that some armadillos have been slowly infiltrating the area unbeknownst to us, traveling up through Memphis and making their way across the east into Middle Tennessee. So far they’ve only made it as far east as the ‘Noog in 20 years of migrating, so apparently they’re slow. Researchers are predicting they’re “here to stay.” At least we know we can outrun them.
- Fair Housing? A few months ago, teen rehab facility Teen Challenge was forced to close its doors when the Metro Council excluded rehab centers from the property’s new zoning. It’s looking now like it may have been a pretty costly decision after it was determined to be in violation of the Fair Housing Act. The city could be liable for as much as $1.35M in damages.
- Your tax dollars at work. We’re seriously thinking the English Only drama may never, ever end–After the courts denied Councilman Eric Crafton’s request for an expedited appeal of their decision to leave the measure off the November ballot, supporters are now calling for a special election.
- Bits & pieces. Metro Council is trying to take the reins on the Music Row eminent domain case … The State Fair just can’t seem to win this year, and now handicapped visitors are complaining that it’s too difficult for them to get around the fairgrounds … The city has stretched out the deadline for homeless folks to get out of Tent City.
