VinceWatch 2008: About Last Night… [Drama]
Like us, you’ve probably been hearing all the buzz about Vince Young’s late-night episode since the news started trickling out early this morning. After an emotional weekend on the field, Young stormed out of his home yesterday evening, peeled away in his SUV, and left his cell phone behind–a string of behaviors worrisome enough to prompt the other person in his house to call it in to Metro. Coach Jeff Fisher and a few of Metro’s finest stood around wringing their hands for four hours until they finally got in touch with Young at a friend’s house. Earlier today they issued this statement:
“Last night, we received a call from people that are closest to Vince informing us that he had left his house in a state of mind that had them concerned; and that he was unreachable, having left his cell phone at the house. Not having all the facts available to us and approaching the matter prudently, we contacted Metro Police to make them aware of the situation and asked for their assistance in locating Vince. He was located at a friend’s house, where we made contact with him. He then came to the practice facility where it was determined that those initial concerns by his friends and family were unfounded and he returned home without incident.”
We’re not sure if we’re buying the story and neither is the local media, it seems. Since the story broke this morning, there have been several reports calling Young’s mental and emotional health into question as well as his safety. Meanwhile, the Titans have been lining up a string of new quarterbacks to fill in just in case Young’s knee injury keeps him out for longer than expected. Probably just a taste of what’s sure to be an interesting season.

Happy Hour: Ars Gratia Artis Edition
- It’s no secret that Fisk University has been in a tough financial situation for a while, but the state attorney general ruled today that they should at least be able to keep their Georgia O’Keeffe collection, which they thought they’d have to fork over to the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in New Mexico. And by “keep,” we mean sell half of it to Arkansas to bail themselves out of financial trouble. [WSMV]
- Metro Animal Control is up to its eyeballs in animals seized from hoarders–an unfortunate trend in Middle Tennessee. Since they have to keep the animals at the shelter as evidence in each case, there are cages spilling out into the hallways and outdoors, meaning that they’re holding off on investigating any new cases until they can get the place cleared out. [WSMV]
- Some state officials are bravely reaching out across the border to Georgia for help in creating a new college savings program for families in Tennessee. Georgia has been running a successful program like it since 2002, so we’re hoping we can learn a thing or two. [WTVF]

We can’t really tell if this shot by andiebottrell is actually old or if it’s new and made to look old, but either way we love it.

State Fair: Say Wha?
Oh, yeah. The Tennessee State Fair is back again. It sort of snuck up on us because no one seems to care about the Tennessee State Fair, but hey. It’s our state, so let’s at least pretend that we’re excited. This year’s state fair features sundry fair-esque things such as cow milkin’ and tractor racin’ and hamburger eatin’ (Krystal hamburgers, no less). Tickets are $8, but you can pick up half price tickets at any Kroger. Rides and concessions will cost you an arm and a leg extra, but what’s a state fair without emptying your pockets on cotton candy and ferris wheel rides? And also, the Tennessee State Fair would like to bring you this PSA:
Okay, we’ll take their word on it.
