Happy Hour: Buyer’s Remorse
- The fingerprints of Elvis, one of the most famous Tennesseans ever, went for nearly $82K at an overseas auction yesterday. Apparently there are some big Elvis fans on the other side of the pond. [WSMV]
- It looks like there’s a McCain rally and debate party in the works since a group filed a request to rent out Riverfront Park on October 6th and 7th. Metro has basically approved it already, and even John McCain himself is slated to make an appearance. [Tennessean]
- Two units of the Tennessee National Guard got the news that they’re being shipped off to Iraq in October making around 13,000 Tennessee troops deployed since 2001. [WSMV]
- Good news for everyone out in Gallatin: Starting September 29th, RTA is starting up a commuter bus running from your part of town to downtown Nashville for $3.50 one-way or $60 for 20 rides. [Tennessean]

Photo Of The Day: September 5, 2008
Joshua Black Wilkins snapped this vintage-y photo of an old recording studio in East Nashville called 17th and Shelby. The Coca Cola logo had been hiding for years underneath a layer of vinyl siding but was finally uncovered during a recent remodeling.
Photo Of The Day will be a recurring feature for Nashvillest as long you keep giving us stuff to post. Don’t worry- We’ll give you props. Just add them to the pool or tag them with “Nashvillest” if you’re feeling lazy.

Don’t Miss This: Nashville Greek Festival 2008
Info is sparse for this year’s 21st Annual Greek Festival, hosted by Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church (4905 Franklin Pike), but take our word on this one and check it out. Authentic Greek food and dance are the highlights of the Greek Festival every year, but we really only need the food to keep us happy. Mmm… Gyros and baklava. The Greek fest runs from 10am-9pm today and tomorrow, and from 11am-7pm on Sunday. That’s plenty of time for us to scarf down a few gyros.

Mourning Demonbreun: Christopher Pizza Closing, What’s Next?
We refuse to believe the news that we heard straight from the horse’s mouth this morning: Christopher Pizza Company will be closing their doors in two weeks. We never fully recovered from the loss of Caffeine and On The Rocks, and now this? Christopher Pizza Company packs a double punch as not only a local favorite for specialty pizza, but also as a place where any musician has a shot at playing for a handful of friends. The oddly endearing oblong restaurant will be sorely missed. We’ll remember fondly the days when we couldn’t get up to go to the bathroom without passing within inches of a wailing Nashville musician’s saliva spray. We’ll remember fondly the eccentric bloggings of one Christopher Pizza employeeblogger Max, who manages to fit more links into a small space than we can use in a week. And we’ll remember fondly those writer’s nights when we were trapped on the wrong side of the room and couldn’t escape from the stream of amateur songwriters (bless their hearts) taking the stage.

Bright & Early: Conventional Things Edition
Good morning, Nashville. The Republican National Convention wrapped up last night, and Tennessee definitely left its mark. In case you missed Marsha Blackburn and Bill Frist, you can catch their speeches on YouTube here and here. More importantly, you may have also missed the John Rich’s “Raisin’ McCain” that closed out McCain’s big speech last night, though it wasn’t quite as good as the live performance the night before which seemed to have everyone shakin’ it like a Polaroid picture. Lucky for us, that too is on YouTube.
- Going country. Jessica Simpson will be taking the stage at the Opry tomorrow night just days before her big country debut Do You Know hits shelves on Tuesday. She says she’s getting butterflies, but she’s excited because the songs really speak from her heart. We can’t wait.
- Drama. A Davidson County judge ruled against putting the English First initiative up for a November vote, but supporters of the ordinance have vowed not to let it die.
- Bits & pieces. Vandy took down South Carolina last night 24-17 in the SEC opener … The guy that grabbed Cher earlier this summer outside of Tootsie’s downtown decided to waive his hearing and faces charges of disorderly conduct for his drunken stunt … Mr. Tim tells us we’re going to get rain today, and we also like his tie.
