Happy Hour: Naked Tuesdays
- A skinny-dipping couple almost ruined a few million gallons of drinking water when they decided to take a swim in a Portland, TN reservoir. We’re thinking they were just trying to keep Georgia from stealing it and probably thought they were doing the state a favor. [WSMV]
- Speaking of naked folks, the lead singer of the Nashville band Th’ Legendary Shack Shakers flashed a whole audience of teens and parents at Rocketown over the weekend. Lame! [Tennessean]
- As more low-income Nashvillians are strapped for cash and unable to pay their sky-high electric bills, the Metro Action Commission has opened up a new site in South Nashville to help people out with their payments. The waiting lists are long, though, the funds are limited. [WTVF]
- The Loveless Cafe, ever popular amongst the tourists, is building a huge 6,000 square-foot event center next door that looks like a barn. They plan on hosting both public and private events in the venue, which should be able to seat 200 to 300 people. [WKRN]

Tennessean‘s Toast Of Music City: Last Chance To Vote!
Let’s face it–No one knows Nashville like the locals do. We live here, we work here, we play here, we eat here, we buy music here, we get our dogs groomed here… and we know where we like to do it. A few weeks back, the Tennessean put out a call for all of our favorites in their first annual Toast of Music City Readers’ Choice Awards. We’re not sure how we missed it, but thankfully you’ve still got one more day to vote for the best in every conceivable category from dog parks to coffee shops. We’re talking dozens and dozens of categories. All participants even get a shot at winning a mysterious “grand prize package.” Voting ends tomorrow (July 2nd), so be sure to get your $0.02 in while you can!

Photo Of The Day: July 1, 2008
Nothing says summertime like a thick coating of algae. This shot by lonelantersociety makes great use of shadows and green growth on a bridge for a really creative self-portrait.
Photo Of The Day will be a recurring feature for Nashvillest as long you keep giving us stuff to post. Don’t worry- We’ll give you props. Just add them to the pool or tag them with “Nashvillest†if you’re feeling lazy.

Bright & Early: MTA Appreciation Edition
Good morning, Nashville. Starting today, all of the bus-riders among us will be feeling the effects of the rate hikes and route changes that came to us as a result of the city’s budget cuts. If you’re lucky enough not to be dependent upon one of the five routes that were cut, you’re looking at a 25-cent increase in regular bus fares or 50 cents if you use AccessRide, Metro’s service for the disabled. We’re thinking this is a good time to remind you of RTA’s Rideshare Program if you’re looking for other ways to soothe your commuting pain.
- Cheerleader’s house burgled. Titans cheerleader Laurie Huff had a surprise visit from some thugs on Sunday who broke into her house while she was in it. She called the cops, who arrived in time to catch the thieves red-handed. No word on whether it was random or if they actually targeted her.
- More roller coasters for downtown. Metro is working out some more public art to put in the Public Square downtown. We’re pretty excited about it as long as they can do a little better than the previous attempt. For what it’s worth, we think it sounds promising.
- Bits & pieces. Metro started seizing that one property with that one record label on Music Row … Police booked 72 people last weekend during their gang-focused Operation Safer Streets … VW set to make their decision about the new plant by next Tuesday, ‘nooga is still in the running … Southern Baptists are now listing the 10,000-ish ministers convicted or indicted for sexual abuse on their website … AAA says roads could be clearer than usual for Fourth of July weekend.

Mixed Reviews: Tennesseans Just Want To Be Heard
This just in from the department of ridiculous rankings: Tennesseans pray more and also have more prayers answered than the average American. Must be why we attract Bible theme parks like magnets.
We also like to be heard in other ways. Nashvillian Verizon customers are the “textiest” in the Southeast, with Knoxville and Chattanooga close behind as cities 2 & 3. Tennessee also comes in as the state with the second highest amount of texting drivers. What’s wrong with a little multitasking?
