- Metro Nashville Public School students are returning from spring break this week and will not require face coverings for students or staff. COVID-19 cases counts are at near-low levels, with about 37 cases reported a day in Davidson County.
- Meharry Medical College has received a $20 million gift from philanthropist Mackenzie Scott aimed at advancing health equity and addressing disparities in care.
- The 2024 Republican National Convention will either be held in Nashville or Milwaukee according to people familiar with the deliberations. An RNC spokesman declined to confirm the reports.
- The home of Bolton’s Spicy Chicken and Fish in East Nashville has been sold to a developer for $1 million, though there isn’t information about the future of the popular hot chicken restaurant.
- Nashville Mayor John Cooper said the city is “not in the stadium business” when it comes to financing a proposed new home for the Tennessee Titans after renovation estimates skyrocketed last month.
- Metro Council is looking into a bill that would adjust the noise ordinance around construction sites to more uniformly apply to higher density housing areas.
- There was some good news on the trash collection front, with complaints dropping so far this month after the city reached an agreement with other providers to pick up routes for Red River, a company currently in bankruptcy court. The city has sued the company to reassign more of their routes to other contractors.
- A massive fuel spill on I-24 near La Vergne last week prompted TDOT to have to repave a section of the interstate. Asphalt “melts” when exposed to pooling gasoline.
- Tennessee State University students are asking for more of a voice in how the university spends $250 million offered to make up for years of under-funding the HBCU.
- The Davidson County Elections Commission has removed Luvell Glanton from the May primary ballot for Circuit Court Judge, agreeing with a complaint filed by one of his opponents alleging he did not meet the residency requirements for the post. His opponent is facing a possible indictment, which would allow Gov. Bill Lee to name his replacement.
- The new blue Tennessee license plate design confuses some automated reading equipment in low light, but state officials say it will be up to agencies to update their equipment to work with them.
- Nashville SC lost to host Real Salt Lake 2-1 Saturday night. The team will travel to the Columbus Crew Saturday, April 2.
- The soccer club has passed 20,000 season tickets sold at its new home at Fairgrounds Nashville. Their first home game is set for May 1.
- Nashville Predators scores for last week: Pittsburgh Penguins 1 @ Predators 4 (W); Predators 4 @ Philadelphia 5 (L); Toronto Maple Leafs 3 @ Predators 6 (W). The team hits the road to face the Anaheim Ducks tonight, Los Angeles Kings tomorrow night and the Vegas Golden Knights Thursday before returning home Sunday against the Philadelphia Flyers.
- The NHL Trade Deadline is at 2 p.m. CT today, with the Preds considered “buyers” as they are holding on to the first wild-card spot in the standings.
- Attaboy, a small speakeasy-style bar in East Nashville, has been named a finalist for a James Beard Award’s “Best Bar Program” category. The winners are announced in June.
