- Nashville Mayor John Cooper presented his second State of Metro address, where he outlined spending priorities for schools, housing and transit.
- The Metro Nashville Police Department will no longer respond to “fender bender” accidents after a policy change this month, instead instructing drivers to exchange insurance information and take photos. An officer will still be dispatched if there are injuries or one party drives away.
- News Channel 5 spoke to the woman who twice reported Anthony Warner to the police before the Christmas Day bombing and her frustration that she was not taken seriously and was not credited for her help in identifying the perpetrator. The reward money went to the police departments to cover expenses.
- A man allegedly flung a colostomy bag at bar patrons at Kid Rock’s bar downtown, prompting an officer to need to change his uniform. It was not the first incident with this individual.
- Tennessee’s legislature is likely to pass a bill that imposes stiff fines and a loss of voting rights for protesters who block public streets, as well as limit the liability of a motorist who hits a protestor with their car. Several of such bills have moved through the legislature following last summer’s protests.
- Voters will decide next November whether to include so-called ‘right to work’ language in the State Constitution, a move opposed by labor organizers and worker’s rights activists. Tennessee law has forbidden employers from requiring union membership for more than 70 years.
- About 100 households in the 37208 zip code could soon be eligible to participate in a guaranteed basic income pilot, which will provide $1,000 each month. GBI has entered the mainstream policy discussions of late as a way to address poverty.
