Good morning, Nashville, and happy 2012! We’ve enjoyed our extended holiday break but we’re ready to get back to the daily grind. In case you haven’t noticed, it’s cold today. Those balmy December days in the mid-60′s have given way to temperatures in the 30′s, overnight flurries and a handful of school closings along the Cumberland Plateau. But hang in there, because it’ll be back in the 50′s and maybe even 60′s by the end of the week. In unrelated news, look at these cool wave clouds that showed up in Birmingham last month! Can we get some of those?
- Good game. The season is over for the Titans, who wrapped things up on Sunday with a final victory over the Houston Texans, bringing their season record to nine and seven.
- Music note mishap. Is it still the new year if the ball (or in this case, music note) doesn’t drop at midnight? Let’s hope so, because Nashville’s music note got stuck this year as the clock struck twelve on January 1.
- Hang on a minute. The Williamson County sheriff’s office has been slapped with a federal lawsuit claiming that the office wrongfully detained immigrants without the permission of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
- Bits & pieces. Drunk online shopping is the latest trend … Occupy Murfreesboro has packed up their encampment … The annual January 1 Percy Priest Polar Bear Plunge was well attended as always … A Nashville psychic assures us that the world will not end in 2012 (oh, and that T. Swift will win Entertainer of the Year again) … The yearlong roundabout construction project at 8th & Lafayette has begun, so basically, avoid 8th Avenue until 2013 … Carole King performed at the Bluebird last night … The city of Portland, TN is out $175k after hackers drained the city’s water and sewer bank account … Civil rights attorneys may be preparing to file challenges to Tennessee’s new voter ID law.
