Bright & Early: See You At The Poll Edition
Good morning, Nashville. It’s Election Day! If you weren’t one of the hundreds of thousands of Tennesseans who voted early, be sure you take a few minutes to research the candidates and head to the polls today. You can find out where to vote at the Davidson County Election Commission, unless the site is down like it was this morning! And with any luck, we should know who our new governator/fearless leader will be by nightfall.
- Overnight blaze at LP Field. So LP Field caught on fire last night! Okay, so it was just a small pile of towels at LP Field that caught on fire and the sprinkler system managed to put it out before the fire department even arrived. Carry on.
- Mosque suit getting expensive. The lawsuit aiming to stop the construction of the proposed Murfreesboro Islamic Center has now cost Rutherford County taxpayers $50,000. The county was forced to add the cash to the county attorney’s budget this week.
- Bits & pieces. Students, teachers and board members are being randomly drug-tested at Montgomery Bell Academy … A 15-car train derailed in Lincoln County overnight. Fortunately no one was hurt and nothing dangerous spilled … Vanderbilt lost its top running back for the rest of the season thanks to a wrist injury.

Bright & Early: It’s Officially Sweater Season Edition
Good morning, Nashville. So who else needs another weekend to recover from their weekend? Fortunately it’s going to be a nice day outside on this first day of November with highs reaching 70 degrees and no rain in sight. But just as we were starting to ease into the fall, rain and winter temperatures will be rolling into town later in the week, and Friday won’t be getting out of the low 50s. Yes, friends, it’s finally time to pull those heavy coats out of the attic.
- More public art on the way. The Metro Arts Commission is getting serious about installing public art in the city’s parks and greenways, and not just larger-scale projects like that giant rollercoaster (okay, okay–Ghost Ballet) or the Massive and Indestructible Crank, but more of the smaller pieces to brighten up all of our green space.
- On the cheap. Nashville made Forbes‘ list of most affordable cities, coming in at a cool #5. Ahead of us were Rochester, NY; Buffalo, NY; Pittsburgh, PA; and Oklahoma City, OK. And who wants to live in any of those places anyway?
- Bits & pieces. Governor Phil gives a quick update on flood recovery after six months … It wasn’t a banner weekend for Nashville sports … A Franklin family crammed 74 Halloween-themed inflatable things in their front yard … On this fine Monday morning, we present you with Davidson County’s dumbest criminals … A Hendersonville dentist is buying up kids’ Halloween candy and shipping it off to our soldiers.
