Happy Hour: Put Out The Fire
- Earlier this week, a fire tore through a South Nashville apartment complex, displacing 23 families including more than 40 children. So if you’ve got some extra furniture, clothing, household stuff, or a couple extra bucks, please consider sending it their way. [WKRN]
- Only in Nashville would a doctor make a music video to promote awareness of heart disease, and only in Nashville would that video actually be pretty good. [WKRN]
- TSU and Fisk collected nearly $2 million in federal grants intended to strengthen historically black colleges. [Tennessean]
- If all goes according to plan, the revamped Bellevue Center Mall should reopen in early 2013–presumably without that IKEA you guys have been Facebooking for. [Tennessean]

Bright & Early: We <3 October Edition
Good morning, Nashville, and happy October! Old Navy is the latest major retailer to pack up and ship out of Opry Mills after the news that the mall reopening is delayed indefinitely unless their insurance company agrees to pay out enough to cover the flood damages. Though Bass Pro Shops is back open, several stores are looking into other options while Opry Mills owners duke it out with their insurance company.
- Happy October to us. We’re itching to press the weekend button and get one or our first tastes of sub-50 fall temperatures, which should roll into the area on Saturday afternoon and evening.
- Get moving. Mayor Dean is kicking off Walk Nashville week this morning at 11, which includes events like the Nashville AIDS Walk, Walk to the Titans game, Walk your neighborhood and Walk to work.
- Bits & pieces. The response time of Metro Police is longer than it’s been in years … The 9/11 Memorial Flag made the rounds to Nashville yesterday … The TVA’s inspector general admitted that poor ash management contributed to the December 2008 ash spill in Kingston … The eminent domain fight over the new convention center land still isn’t over … Vandy tailgating has been banned in two Metro Schools parking lots.
