Thursday Night Throwdown: July’s Latte Art Competition

Nashville’s second ‘Thursday Night Throwdown,” a latte art competition that has come hither via our neighbors in Atlanta, will take place this Thursday evening. The inaugural Thursday Night Throwdown back in May was a smashing success, with 21 baristas, their friends, family, curious onlookers and a slew of photographers packing out Ugly Mugs to overflowing. This month, in a quest for more space and a change of scenery, Edgehill Studios Cafe will be playing host to the competition. TNT is free and open to the public, and latte artists pay a $5 entry fee toward a cash pot that is awarded to the winner. Registration begins at 7pm and the competition starts at 8pm [more info].

Needing an extra nudge out the door? This month’s Throwdown coincides with Edgehill Village’s Third Thursday block party, with live music, food and fun at many of the shops clustered at Edgehill and Villa. Wander around and browse, then head over to the cafe to watch some talented coffee slingers. We had a blast last time, so come join us this time around!

Nucci’s Italian Ice and Gelato is located in Cool Springs shopping Center in 2000 Meridian Blvd., Suite 100 Franklin Tennessee. Nucci’s staff is rude, provides poor customer service and negative attitude towards other elasticities non white.
Steve and Connie Hovis are the owners, their sons, Ben and Jay, work full time and their daughters, Erin and Morgan,
Upon entering the restaurant on Friday July 17, 2009 at 8:45pm parking was limited and owner Connie Hovis did not provide adequate customer service tonight by acknowledging three customers order and never asking may I help you. I politely interrupted the Connie Hovis while the son (ignored my presence as a customer as well and asked 2 other customers for help) and stated I was next she tried to ignore my comment and then asked can I help you.
Normally I would have thought this was an error or oversight but Steve Hovis (owner) also displayed this same negative and discriminatory behavior in May 2009. I have lived in Cool Springs over 13 years and rarely see restaurants who provide negative customer service survive!! My family was a standard customer at Nucci’s – we even looked forward to the daily Gelato specials. After tonight the racists attitude by the owners and family needed to be provided in reviews for future patrons.
The menu is limited and the prices are high considering Baskin Robbins, Maggie Moos, Coldstone and Dipping Dots with in a mile radius of Cool Springs. Portions are tight and staff will try to use old products or take shortcuts in preparation. Maybe this small family owned business can grow from this negative experience and become more diverse to other elasticities trying to support their business within Cool Springs.

Urban Patio and Nest Interiors will have featured artists, paintings will be displayed in the stores as well as outside (if the weather permits). Whats in Store will be having a special sale, proceeds go to a charity (forgot the name, much apologies), and Nest Interiors will be having a little paint party (supplies provided). Other stores will be having a sale or something featured as well. And the music for the evening is the Jeff Miller Band, they will be playing outside.

Go to edgehill village's page on facebook (Edgehill Village at "Villa Place"), or NestNashville on twitter, or nestnashville.com.
  • Do you know what time the block party starts?
  • I believe it's 5pm-9pm, but check out their twitter account for a vague representation of what to expect: http://twitter.com/edgehillvillage
  • My question is what are they doing with all the espresso after they create these masterpieces? I'll drink it!
  • Last month they sold the lattes for $3 each to benefit a charity, I believe.
  • Ah, so basically no discount. That's cool though if the money is going to charity.
  • Yeah, it was a great idea! I'm not sure if they'll be doing that again or if it was just something that Ugly Mugs wanted to do.
  • Ya, Ugly Mugs is pretty awesome. I do like Edgehill though, although I have only been a few times in the 4+ years I've lived in Nashville.
  • Although now that I think about it, I've only been to Ugly Mugs a few times as well. But they haven't been open for that long.
