Happy Hour: Bad News Bears
- 84 guns have been swapped out in exchange for tickets to TSU’s UniverSoul Circus. This includes 56 handguns, 16 shotguns and 12 rifles. [WKRN]

- WSMV jumps at the chance to slam the Nashville Scene in their headline about the classy Green Hills lady arrested today for running a “massage therapy business,” wink wink nudge nudge. Thursday Night Throwdown: July’s Latte Art Competition
Nashville’s second ‘Thursday Night Throwdown,” a latte art competition that has come hither via our neighbors in Atlanta, will take place this Thursday evening. The inaugural Thursday Night Throwdown back in May was a smashing success, with 21 baristas, their friends, family, curious onlookers and a slew of photographers packing out Ugly Mugs to overflowing. This month, in a quest for more space and a change of scenery, Edgehill Studios Cafe will be playing host to the competition. TNT is free and open to the public, and latte artists pay a $5 entry fee toward a cash pot that is awarded to the winner. Registration begins at 7pm and the competition starts at 8pm [more info].
Needing an extra nudge out the door? This month’s Throwdown coincides with Edgehill Village’s Third Thursday block party, with live music, food and fun at many of the shops clustered at Edgehill and Villa. Wander around and browse, then head over to the cafe to watch some talented coffee slingers. We had a blast last time, so come join us this time around!

Bright & Early: Needle In A Haystack Edition
Good morning, Nashville. We apologize for going MIA yesterday afternoon. The Nashvillest HQ suffered a small security breach and your editor’s 13″ black Macbook seems to have sprouted some legs and run off. So if you’re poking around the internet and happen to see one with two of these and a missing power cord, drop us an email. Speaking of jerks who steal things, several folks in Madison are noticing that their Jesus yard signs are disappearing. Most of the signs went up this past weekend after many of the area Baptist churches handed them out to their congregations.
- More homeless families. New studies are showing that more and more of the homeless population. The new trend is putting a strain on Safe Haven Family Shelter, which is one of the only local shelters that houses homeless family members together. For ways you can help, check out their website.
- Sick people. Footage from the dashboard camera in Sgt. Mark Chesnut’s police car revealed a disturbing twist in the I-40 shooting incident: One of the men actually laughed and smiled when the other shot Chesnut five times. Previously, the accomplice denied even witnessing the shooting.
- Bits & pieces. No one can agree on exactly how toxic the water is next to the TVA’s Kingston ash spill site … The state of Tennessee is finally discovering how to use the internet with car registration … A group of fans are petitioning online to retire Steve McNair’s jersey number … Officials think a low oxygen level is to blame for the fish and bird deaths at Centennial … Mayor Dean says he’s in support of the proposed non-discrimination ordinance that includes sexual orientation and gender identity.
