Photo Of The Day: November 26, 2008
In honor of Turkey Day, here are some wild turkeys wandering around in the middle of the road somewhere in Nashville as captured by amerune.
Photo Of The Day will be a recurring feature for Nashvillest as long you keep giving us stuff to post. Don’t worry–we’ll give you props. Just add them to the pool or tag them with “Nashvillest” if you’re feeling lazy.

Calling All Crazy People: Opry Mills Midnight Madness [Black Friday]
This one goes out to the masochists among us who are staying in town for Thanksgiving. If you’re dying to throw yourself into the Black Friday fray, you’ll be happy to know that the folks at Opry Mills have you covered. Starting tomorrow night at midnight, most of the 200 stores will be opening their doors (except Bass Pro because they’re lame) to everyone who’s crazy enough to be at the mall in the middle of the night. The festivities will carry on through the early morning hours and well into the next day:
[Updated 11/27, 8pm]
1 – 6 a.m. — Shoppers can rest their feet to enjoy Classic Holiday Movies on the big screen and free popcorn in the Food Court.
2 a.m. — The first 300 shoppers ages 18 and older who arrive at the Regal Cinemas Court after the midnight opening will get a wristband that allows participation in Opry Mills’ sixth annual Balloon Pop at 2 a.m. All balloons will be attached to columns to be popped and will contain vouchers for Simon Giftcards, including a grand prize of $1,000!
6 – 7 a.m. — After working up an appetite, shoppers are invited at 6 a.m. to have Breakfast with Dancers from the World Famous Rockettes. Guests will be treated to free coffee and doughnuts, candid photos with the Rockettes and the chance to play in a 100-person game of Musical Chairs for a $500 Simon Giftcard!
4 – 6 p.m. — Black Friday also will feature the debut of “Holiday Family Theater,” a 30-minute family musical featuring holiday songs and carols, a reading of “The Night Before Christmas” and an appearance by Santa Claus in a magical finale. Visit www.oprymills.com for additional show times throughout the holiday season.
As part of Shop Smarter, visitors don’t have to shop till they drop – Opry Mills will offer valet parking at Entry 2 by Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5th, a free shuttle service from the parking lot to mall entrances and a Rejuvenation Station featuring soft seating, video entertainment, product samples and coupons every weekend during the holiday shopping season.

Bright & Early: Are We There Yet? Edition
Good morning, Nashville. We’re down to our last day before the vacation and we’re ready to join the masses of Nashvillians flooding out of the city for the holiday. Lucky for us, the traffic is expected to be considerably thinner this year thanks to our tanking economy. Fewer cars on the road means fewer accidents, and fewer accidents means fewer traffic deaths–and well, that’s something to be thankful for.
- Christmas tree saga cont. We’re continuing to follow the story of The Christmas Tree That Almost Wasn’t. It arrived in the Public Square yesterday evening and will take a few days to be decorated, but we expect it to be pretty well decked out by the time we get back.
- Staging a coup. While Mayor Dean is positioning himself to take over the gimpy public school system, the school board has decided it’s not going down without a fight.
- Bits & pieces. Metro Schools are trying to minimize the damage of next year’s impending layoffs … Federal wiretapping drama is tied to AT&T which is tied to the Batman Building which is in Nashville, but the bottom line is that we needed an excuse to show you this picture … A Nashville judge takes Nashville’s homeless problem into his own hands.
