Happy Hour: E Is For Emergency
- Nashvillians are brilliant–our 911 dispatchers have so far gotten calls from people who are locked in their cars because they forgot to unlock the doors, people who can’t sleep, people whose cats won’t let them out of the bedroom, people who have lost their keys… if it isn’t an emergency, then don’t call! [WKRN]
- Who wants to take a field trip to Rutherford County to drain them of their $1.50 gas? We smell another gas crisis! [WTVF]
- Even the Metro bus drivers say the new downtown bus station is unsafe, but at least it’s only because of construction. [WSMV]
- Experts are predicting that West Tennessee could see the worst damage in the US if there’s a high-magnitude earth quake in the New Madrid Seismic Zone. [WTVF]

This Weekend: Iron & Wine With Blitzen Trapper At The Ryman

Our excursions to The Ryman are few and far between. Who can afford $40-60 for a show every week – Or even every month? (Hint: Not us.) But there are certain artists whose music seems to have been crafted perfectly to be heard at The Ryman, and Iron & Wine is one of them. We’re about to go crazy waiting for Sunday to roll around. Opening for Iron & Wine is Portland, OR based Blitzen Trapper, whose music we’ve just recently heard in anticipation of this show. Blitzen Trapper is a perfect touring match for Iron & Wine, with their catchy, up-tempo folk-pop in the vein of Wilco (think of a gleeful Wilco and you’ve pretty much got Blitzen Trapper). Tickets are still available, but starting to look scarce, so grab ‘em now.

Bright & Early: Tut Tut, Looks Like… Snow?
Good morning, Nashville. Last night we heard reports of the very first blizzard of the season complete with howling winds and zillions and zillions of snow… flurries. Okay, so maybe it wasn’t exactly a blizzard, but snow is snow right? We doubt we’ll be seeing any more of the white stuff today, but it’ll definitely be chilly out there. The low tonight is expected to hit a teeth-chattering 20 degrees!
- From WSMV: “Some actors like to make sure they have another skill to fall back on, just in case the acting-thing doesn’t work out. But for Fred Thompson, acting is his back-up because the politics-thing didn’t work out the last time he tried it.” Poor Fred!
- It’s a bird! It’s a plane! Titans Coach Jeff Fisher, clearly too badass for ground transportation, parachuted into practice yesterday with members of the 101st Airborn Parachute Team. The guys watched in amazement and said they had no idea it was Coach Fish floating down from the sky until he got closer.
- Bits & pieces. Six more people from Tent City were placed in public housing this week … The lawsuit to take down the English Only ordinance isn’t linked to formal opposition … A study shows that 8% of Tennessee’s kids are uninsured and that most come from working families … If you make a 911 call from a city park, then you’re up the proverbial creek.
