Happy Hour: Are We Not Free?

  • We’re sorry to report that Sean Hannity’s Freedom Concerts ’09 will not be making a stop in Nashville, though they feature such local talent as Billy Ray Cyrus, Charlie Daniels, and Michael W. Smith. [Wonkette]
  • Titans running back LenDale White is looking at anger management class and one year of probation following some shenanigans in Denver back in March. [Tennessean]
  • Governor Phil says he won’t be raising our gas tax–or any other kind of tax–any time soon. Whew! [WTVF]
  • Kid Rock says he loves us and says we’re a great representation of America. We love you too, Kid, but we still can’t handle your music. [Tennessean]

Songwriter Kerry Collins Moonlights As A Quarterback [Only In Nashville]

Kerry Collins, the Titans quarterback who took over for the ailing Vince Young earlier this year, is a guy we’ve been hearing a lot about these days, what with the Titans being all undefeated and everything. What we did not know is that Kerry Collins also writes country songs. In fact, Kerry Collins wrote a country song called “It’s Not Hard To Be Happy When I’m Looking At You” which the world has yet to hear. He says he only “dabbles,” but we say it’s only a matter of time.

But there’s more: During the CMA edition of Good Morning America last week, Billy Ray Cyrus debuted his new track “Back To Tennessee,” which is set to be featured in the Hannah Montana movie. He’s convinced that it could be the new Titans anthem, so he pitched the song to Kerry Collins which is how this fun fact came to light.

Don’t by shy, Kerry. There’s always room in this town for a crooning quarterback–especially one that carries us to the Superbowl!

Thanks to Evan D. for the tip!

Photo Of The Day: November 18, 2008

We had a couple of Halloween stragglers in the pool, and this creepy-looking Joker was definitely one of our favorites! Thanks to mchasesteely for the submission.

Photo Of The Day will be a recurring feature for Nashvillest as long you keep giving us stuff to post. Don’t worry–we’ll give you props. Just add them to the pool or tag them with “Nashvillest” if you’re feeling lazy.

Bright & Early: Could Be Worse? Edition

Good morning, Nashville. We think it’s safe to say that Preds captain Jason Arnott is having kind of a rough year. After a hefty collision in the first period of last night’s game, he had to be carted off the ice on a backboard to be checked out at the Vandy Medical Center. This comes only about a month after his Brentwood house burned down. The good news is, he was well enough to make it back to the arena before the game was even over. The bad news is, the Preds still lost.

  • Jackpot? The IRS still owes us–the fine citizens of Tennessee–upwards of about $5 million. They’ve published a 151-page list of names broken down by county, so if you find your name on there, please go collect your check!
  • It’s that time again. Between the cold weather and the crappy economy, Nashville’s homeless shelters are feeling the hurt. If your church would be up for hosting Room In The Inn, you can find more info on that here. If you’re interested in individual opportunities, they need that too.
  • Bits & pieces. Early voting for Davidson County’s English Only special election begins January 2nd … PSA: Miley Cyrus is NOT DEAD … This time, it was the officer caught speeding … MTSU students are understandably kind of freaked out by the rash of shootings and terrorist activity on campus.
