Happy Hour: Pucker Up!
- We saw this headline and thought we’d be able to tell you how to win kisses from your favorite country star (you DO have a favorite country star… right?) but it looks like it’s just a lame imprint being auctioned off on Ebay. The un-lame part is that the proceeds are going to domestic violence shelters. [WSMV]
- And this beyond-cute story about a first grader who got to bring Tennessee Titans Jevon Kearse to school for show-and-tell today ALMOST makes up for it. [WKRN]
- One councilwoman wants to take away our afterhours booze, though. Not that we’re usually awake at 3am to drink anyway. [Tennessean]
- Metro Council is also taking a look at a push for Green Streets, which would give us a better way to manage and reuse storm water. We can get on board with that. [Tennessean]

Photo Of The Day: November 11, 2008
We loved the lighting in this shot by B. Marshall of a skateboarder teetering precariously on the edge of a trash can outside of City Hall (the real one, not the venue).
Photo Of The Day will be a recurring feature for Nashvillest as long you keep giving us stuff to post. Don’t worry–we’ll give you props. Just add them to the pool or tag them with “Nashvillest” if you’re feeling lazy.

They’re Back! [CMApocalypse 2008]
As anyone headed downtown this week may have noticed, the CMA Awards are tomorrow night, and they’re already leaving footprints all over our city. But there are some perks for us Nashvillians. We may not be able to drive the downtown streets, but we can enjoy some free entertainment from some pretty big name country stars (if that’s your thing). Last night saw a relatively impromptu performance at Tootsie’s from Kenny Chesney, and we hear that Kid Rock made a brief appearance on stage as well. We weren’t able to give much advance notice on that one, but here are a few more freebies to sweeten your week (thanks, CMApocalypse!).
TODAY
- Chevy CMA Awards Kickoff Concert. Featuring a free concert from Heidi Newfield (4pm), Rodney Atkins (4:45pm), Eli Young Band (5:45pm) and Kevin Costner & Modern West (6:30pm), the Chevy-esque events are happening from 12pm-7pm, but the concerts start at 4pm. Not sure why they want you there at noon, but maybe you can score some free Chevy swag. (Sommet Center Plaza at 5th & Broadway)
TOMORROW
- “Good Morning America” Taping with Miley & Billy Ray Cyrus. This should be a good one. Haul yourself out of bed and through downtown commuters at 7am to see good ol’ Miley and Billy Ray perform their tear-jerking father/daughter song that they perform at every awards ceremony. Yeah. (Sommet Center Plaza, 5th & Broadway)

Bright & Early: House Hunters Edition
Good morning, Nashville. City officials have been working on finding housing for the folks in Tent City after repeatedly pushing back the deadline for shutting it down. They’ve put 10 of them up in a hotel on Murfreesboro Road while they try to work out public housing, but several more are still waiting. We’re surprised no one has handed them a one-way ticket out of town yet, given the city’s track record. The Homelessness Commission and Urban Housing Solutions have been getting in on the effort.
- Equality riders arrested. Three Soulforce Q Equality Riders were arrested at Union University yesterday while on campus to talk to students about gay and transgender equality. The school instructed the group to stay to the edge of campus and then had them arrested when they started heading towards the main campus. Nashville native and outed Christian TV show host Azariah Southworth was with the group but wasn’t arrested.
- MTA wants you. Unhappy with the public transportation situation around here? MTA wants to hear what you have to say (though we can’t promise they’ll actually do anything about it). The five public meetings will be held around town next week.
- Bits & pieces. A man was shot and injured on 2nd Ave. last night … If you know any military folks who are dying to go to the zoo today, they get in free … Rescued pit bulls from a Kentucky dog fighting operation are resting up in Dickson … A Franklin soldier was killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq over the weekend.
